I like the anime better than the manga (never read the novel). But Yamazaki rules the universe either way.

Definitely one hell of a complete series... The plot twists are definitely effective... The series has definitely shown the lives of people who are Hikikomori, Otaku and Gamer with some extent of realism...

I watched the first two episodes....wow, it's so strange and idiotic...but still enticing enough for me to watch it - I feel kind of sad for these characters, which I think is the ultimate connection for fans to like characters, they need to be human and have flaws.

I'm watching it on youtube and I'm kind of laughing because every comment I see is "I'm  a hikikomoru too!" or "I'm a NEET as well", it's definitely depressing in some aspects.

EDIT: and the opening is awesome, I dunno what type of genre it is..some sort of jazzy/pop style?

I only watched the first episode...it was enough for me to like it!!!!It's interesting to see a manga which is focused on a real problem of society...the main character is completly weird but I love that^^it's really different from all the mangas I read...and the music in the ending is...special

You are absolutely right, my god, this series unexpectedly is probably one of the best animes I have ever watched.

All the characters, are so vivid and have human-like personalities, and their struggles just beckon me to keep watching more; I love all the characters!  They all have flaws, but there's no one "thing" that makes me dislike them, which I don't think has ever happened for me in a series.  The hardships and just how realistic everything was made me love this show; there's no sugarcoating with beefy/intelligent/powerful protagonists.

plot twists?  I didn't notice anything really drastic...in fact, when i first started the series, after reading your statement, throughout the show i was waiting for one of the characters to ACTUALLY be part of this NHK conspiracy, a la Black Organization style - however I ultimately continued to watch to observe their struggles and actions in their daily lives.

The ending was...if I say so myself, beautiful.  I like all the 'contracts', and how in the end they both are finally on the right track, heading back to college.  Episode 23, Welcome to Misaki, when she handed him that contract, oh man, started to feel something in the throat if you know what I mean...They have an incredibly developed and deep relationship, much respect for the writer.  Misaki and Sato are ultimately perfect for each other.

Man this show was so sad, while it did have a happy ending, it was bittersweet, especially with Yamazaki leaving, I love that guy!!!  Having your best friend who lives right next to you move away for the rest of your life is definitely something to shed tears about.  If Yamazaki moved back in the finale, I would of been really happy.

On a lighter side before I go all emo/cry baby on you guys, there were a looot of funny parts in this show.  First of all, like I said, hentai games to achieve popularity in the gaming industry? LOL, and then the whole thing with "Ultimate Fantasy", which is obviously a blatant ripoff of Final Fantasy MMO (i forget which number it is) - let this be a warning to all you MMO players out here in the forums, yes I'm talking about you...was hilarious, especially when Yamazaki turned out to be Mia, hahahahaha

And omg, I'm exactly like Satou...I GOT THE DAMN PURIN PURIN PURIN song stuck in my head!! It doesn't help that its played every episode as his ringtone!!! DAAMNNIT!

All in all, a 'masterpiece', exactly as you deemed kkslider.  Will this series be my "primer espada"?  Only time will tell. 

Whenever I finish a series, I always feel depressed - but after NHK I feel even more so - even though a 2nd season or some sort of sequel would tarnish the show, I can't help but want more...

KKslider, Coolkid, I have to give you my respects for recommending me this series, uncharacter-like for me to be saying this, but thank you.

Sorry for the misuse of the term. I must have been referring more on the character twist rather than plot.

But still I liked the fact that Satou was actually the one teaching Misaki at the end of the series. Not really a fan of their pairing cause I would like Satou to end up with his sempai. It must be noted also that the "wannabe saver" (Misaki) was actually the one who wanted and/or needed to be saved toward the end of this series.
