Death note vs Detective Conan is an upcoming 52 episode anime special, featuring a crossover of Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan series and Tsugumi Ohba's Death Note. Its creation was announced after the airing of the Lupin vs Conan special. At first it was to be a 3 hour special but because of the popularity of the idea, it was decided that it would be better to tell the story in an entirely new series. It was announced that the Black Organization would also be playing a role in the 2nd half of the series. This series is non-canon. The plot is an entire retelling of the Death Note story, starting from when Light gets the Death Note with the addition of the Detective Conan Characters. Gosho Aoyama said not to expect the same events to occur as the scenes from the original Death Note will be completely different. At one point he said, "be prepared for something exciting". Gosho Aoyama described the anime as a combination of the good parts from both series. It won't be as light-hearted and comedic as Detective Conan, but it won't be as dark as serious as Death Note either.
Plot
Walking home from school Light Yagami discovered a notebook on the ground. He kept it but thought nothing at the time, thinking it was nothing but a harmless joke. Later on the news it was reported black organization member Sharon Vinyard held a group of people hostage at the bank, Light wrote her name in the notebook and to his shock she died 40 seconds later. As a result he now uses the book to kill off criminals to make a better world and taken up the alias Kira. These unsolvable killings has gotten the attention of L, said to be the world's greatest detective is on the case and attempting to catch light. To help crack the case L sent letters to the top Detectives and strategists in the world to assist him in the case
Meanwhile Conan Edogawa, alias of is alarmed by all of the strange Deaths reports the detective agency has been receiving, all deaths by heart attacks. He is greeted later by Hattori Heiji, who brings him his letter that he is invited to join L and take down Kira.
Shinichi and Light are against each other, in which Kudo considers his most difficult case ever.
Cameo
Phantom thieves Lupin the 3rd and Kaitou Kid are said to play a role in the upcoming special.
Manga
It was announced that Takeshi Obata and Gosho Aoyama will be working together to produce a manga version of this upcoming special. The manga will be released 3 days after the anime is aired.
