Yeah I know about those... most of my American relatives live in the north east as well so I hear stories from them...miakakiri wrote:I live in a city in the north-east of the US, so a two-hour blackout is a little odd... at least, on a clear day in early October it is. Usually if we get a blackout it's weather-related. At least once a year a blizzard or ice storm will knock out power, usually for at least a day or two. A few years back there was a bad snowstorm about a week before Halloween that knocked out power for a week or more in some parts of the state--the trees hadn't finished dropping their leaves yet, which made the whole thing worse. This one... it wasn't even raining! Probably something like a transformer blew.... little too widespread for "car hit a pole".KaitoRizu wrote:As someone who lives where I live, I would've said that you must've had a hard time in the past....miakakiri wrote:I'm still wondering what caused the blackout yesterday morning...
Partly because that blackout (which lasted for maybe 2 hours) has now thrown off most of my week. Currently operating on pretending today is Sunday, because the errands didn't get run yesterday and need to be run now, so I'll do the laundry tomorrow. (I do laundry on Monday, normally.) Blackout took out Archi's sleep machine, and he can't sleep well without it. So he was stuck staying up REALLY late for him. Went and ran the one somewhat time-sensitive errand, and fortunately the power was back by the time we got home.
I need to make up the grocery list....
Now the blackouts last for about 12 or 16 hours a day so just a couple of hours feel like a blessing...
I wanted to take an early bath today and go to bed early because tomorrow is a work day but we need electricity to heat the water for our baths where I live and we had an extra couple of hours added to the current 12h system we have at the moment so right now it's about 10 pm and I'm still stuck waiting for my bath... seems like I'll sleep with my hair wet and hope that I won't catch a cold... again......
I could probably deal with a day or two when caused by weather (we have those too and they're not counted along with the daily one, we once had 3 days that were followed by half a day even though it was already fixed) but our reasons for not having power sounds a bit fake most of the time and there's a lot of lies like "power will get better" and then it only gets worse then we start making the "blackouts will get better" jokes XD
This might be easier to understand if you knew where I live and I don't know if you figured it out and I don't mind if anyone finds out but I don't want to say it here on the forum for anyone and everyone to see
