I don't understand why so many people complained about the lack of originality in 5th Gen games and now everyone is silent about the little to nothing originality in the Kalos region. 30ish mega evolutions? 4th Gen did it, just without the name Mega. Santalune forest is a copy of Viridian forest. Snorlax blocking a bridge, I wonder where we've seen that. 3 mascot legendaries with unique abilities, the 3rd one blocking the other 2. Evil team's boss waking up a legendary to destroy humanity (and adding some theory, not showing their genuine love for pokemon). Gifted Lapras. A failing Power Plant. Lowest amount of new pokemons introduced in the history of the games. OH NO I DROPPED THE LIFT KEY! sounds familiar?
I'm probably missing some more other things too, I'll try to add them if I remember them. The point is that X and Y are great games, but they don't shine in originality, I wish people (not directed at anyone in DCTP ) would realize that this lacking happened in past recent games and it was a complete flamewar in the internet, now they are just ignoring it cause OH 3D GRAPHICS! @.@

To be fair, I don't think many people are actually enjoying XY because of the 3D graphics. V: Considering they only show up during battles and key scenes.

I like the new games because 1) Wonder Trade; 2) the new Exp Share; 3) I actually enjoy some of the new pokemon; 4) THE FIRE STARTER IS NOT FIRE/FIGHTING.

Is it original? Of course not. Nothing in pokemon will ever be original again. That being said, 5th Gen bored the ever-loving hell out of me. For the most part, I hated all of the pokemon designs (Deino line, Purrloin line and a few others are the exceptions), that damn Fire/Fighting trend was still going on, and I had no interest in the storyline. (To be fair, I didn't have much interest in Gen 6's storyline either. It's basically the same every time, and I enjoyed Gen 1-4 a lot more.)

To each his own. As long as you don't sit there and try to tell me Gen 5 was the OMGBESTTHINGEVAR, then we're cool.

^ most of that exactly. Gen six is an incredible nostalgia trip. And though it might not be fully original, it has new things to be excited about. I think I sat down a zillion times and even made my own short cut that way.
Gen 5 just didn't do it for me, even though N is so dreamy *_*. It's the first game I got stuck with and frustrated me to such an amount that I just... Gave up.
So what that it's not original, I haven't had this much fun playing a pokemon game for a while. (and I'm not counting remakes here)

Now mechanics?

It's 200% times easier to get shinies in X and Y by breeding or wild encounter. Chaining makes the chances go even lower.

Along with shinys, criticals are more common. In fact now Kingdra with scope lense and focus energy can get a critcal rate of 100% (technically anyone can do it).

This means he can use draco meteor over and over and ignore the SpAtk drop. Plus, because of Kingdra's sniper, his crits aren't dropped to x1.5 like other pokemon.
