California, represent.  Except I'm NorCal, so we should probably enemies (San Fran Bay Area 4 life).

Welcome to the forums! I like Californians so, post here more often.  As an anime-only watcher, I'd honestly tell you to steer away from the anime originals.  They aren't anything special..there's maybe 1 or 2 episodes out of 586 that are worth watching.  But, the anime is definitely worth watching (especially 1-400) for awesome VA, semi-awesome opening/endings, and incredible OST.  The artwork is "meh", but once you hit the 300 mark the quality vastly improves.

I'm pretty lazy tonight. I don't really feel like browsing around the forums. maybe tomorrow. I'll check out the forum games, but I tend to disappear for days on end... so I'm not sure if I would be such a great person to play with. haha

Yeah... I noticed that the artwork in the anime sucks in the earlier episodes. Well... it doesn't really suck. It just looks... weird...
