The Brits use both system among other things because the EU makes them use the metric system:)
The old system still survives because of recipes and other things that have been around for a while.

Rule of thumb for temperatures: When it's hot you use Fahrenheit and when it's cold you use Celsius:D
or you can use Kelvin, so nobody knows what you're talking about.
And I suppose that's true about being too lazy to convert old things, considering that's basically the case with the US.
