Companionship: Conan is the only one who understands Ai.
- Ai does not feel so bad about her situation because "There was someone else in the same situation" (File 189)
- Conan is one of the few people who could cheer Ai up, after the Bus Bomb Case, Ai was feeling pretty much fatalistic until Conan cheered her up. (File 291)
- Ai understands Conan's hardship when she was forced to "babysit" class 1-B. (File 549)
Feelings: Although Conan rarely gets the message, Ai's feelings towards him is quite clear if we simply look closely.
- She believes in him: "Conan is stronger than you think..." (File 201)
- She cares a lot about how Conan thinks about her (more than her own life, apparently). Despite being deathly afraid, she went to the party to track down Pisco and a sample of APTX 4869 because she doesn't want Conan to call her a murderer anymore. (File 239)
- After Conan berates himself about how he is hurting Ran by keeping her waiting. Ai thinks sympathetically "Pitiful... Both you and I..." (File 337)
- She sees him as a nice person: "Don't judge from the outside, like any beautiful rose has thorns, the more a person appears nice on the outside, the more you should doubt the inside..." [Glances at Conan] "Although there are people who are nice inside." (File 461)
Jealousy: Ai is jealous of Ran, who is in first place in vying for Shinichi's love
- Ai tends to avoid talking to Ran. (File 251)
- She gets in a good mood when Conan failed to confess his love to Ran as Shinichi. (File 261)
- She pretends to be asleep when Ran tries to feed her porridge during her bout of fever. (File 423)
- Deleting the picture of Ran in a swimsuit from Conan's cellphone. (File 493)
Teasing: Ai LOVES to tease Conan. It can be seen as her method of flirting (since she rarely teases other people). Just a few examples:
- "Using too much of your brain can make you bald like Dr. Agasa" (File 222)
- "The memory of lost ones remains beautiful and stays in people's hearts forever..." [Glances at Conan] "Like a certain person." (File 371)
- "Hearts are the same as time, their distance increases as they are taken further apart..." [Glances at Conan] "Then again there are exceptions." (File 451)
- Requesting that Conan buy her a purse as a "bribe" for her cooperation during a case. (File 468)
- Teasing Conan about being stumped by a code she made up (File 491) then getting annoyed when he solves it. (File 493)
Change in Personality/Alignment: Perhaps the truest testament to her feelings toward Conan. Ai has changed from a full Black Organization member and adopted some of Conan's traits:
- Developed a belief and a sense of justice.
- Took up an interest in soccer, not even Ran does this. (File 346)
- Decided to not run away from her past and refused the FBI witness protection program.
- Begins to value friendship. (File 400)
Miscellaneous: Small signs of affection.
- Sleeping on Conan's shoulder during a movie viewing. (File 222)
- She gets flustered when Conan sees her smile. (File 275)
- She keeps glancing at Conan as noticed by Yukiko Kudo. "A girl watching a boy means she's paying attention to the person she likes" (File 417)
- She is the only one beside Yukiko Kudo who notices Conan's grin/smile whenever he figures out a case. (Although she calls it "annoying" and often teases him about it.)
- Ai has recently developed some "Tsundere" qualities in which she picks on Conan when she's in a bad mood. (File 635 to 637) ^_^
Note that Ai always addresses Conan as "Kudo" when talking to him or Dr. Agasa, so she does NOT treat Conan and Shinichi separately. When she thinks about him, she also refer to him as "Kudo" (File 289)
