Re: New case (741-???)
I think there's a very legitimate complaint here; it isn't like people asking, "Why no kiss for Ran & Shinichi!?!?!1/1/". This is yet another instance of Gosho trying to pull the same old sentimentalist strings, despite having done this with practically every single couple in the series so far. When you run something into the ground like this, it no longer has any effect. Like, the Shiratori case was already tired, and now this? Unless Chiba's first love turns out to be Megure, I can't imagine I will look on the resolution to this case favorably. If the Shiratori version of this story (which is almost always practically the same, and his was no doubt the least plausible and the worst) had come earlier in the series, we'd have likely liked it more and it may have had the intended effect. Instead--for me at least--it was like, "Not this again..."

Re: New case (741-???)
Yumi mentions an ex-boyfriend in Secret Path to School. She even describes him a bit... so I wouldn't be surprised at all if we are eventually shown him. Aoyama probably had Shiratori/Kobayashi planned back then, too, since a few cases after that we get Ayumi thinking that Kobayashi without the glasses looks like Sato. (In hindsight, Aoyama was also pretty clearly fresh off his immunology research for Eisuke's leukemia and blood type change, since both of those cases involved allergies, and a case in between introduced Eisuke. I think I even joked somewhere about the anime stringing them together with some fillers so they could just keep reusing allergies for Next Conan's Hint.)Khinkhun wrote:Chiba, Chiba, the next one will be..... will Gosho running out of first love? or am I missing a character?Kor wrote: REJOICE PEOPLE! Ok, enough sarcasm. I'm not surprised. Na'a, not even slightly. When there was first Shiratori's love case, I said "Soon we'll have Chiba's first love". I mean, it's Gosho. It was obvious he wouldn't let ANYONE stay alone at the end. Let's hope Chiba's love is Yumi, so we won't need to see HER romance later on.
Don't open the spoiler if you don't want to see my rantings....(don't take what I write so seriously btw. Gosho can't really make me angry since he's too predictable now)Spoiler:
BTW, Yumi is engaged isn't she? I don't remember her marital status... hmm it's been so long since I've seen her...
Nyarl: Right, because all the childhood friend pairs are so much more functional couples than the pairs like Sonoko-Makoto and Takagi-Sato.Khinkhun wrote:In my mind, I'm hoping this will be the last since I have no other sideline characters in mind for the next Oh-God-Tokyo-Is-So-Small-I'm-Bumping-Into-Long-Lost-Childhood-Crushes-Everywhere File, so I guess I'll stick around through this one... after I'm done with the stress reduction kitJd- wrote: I think there's a very legitimate complaint here; it isn't like people asking, "Why no kiss for Ran & Shinichi!?!?!1/1/". Nyarl: Yukiko-Yusaku, too...
Nyarl: Shiratori-Kobayashi is also exactly the same as Kazuha-Heiji because a first love from a brief encounter is the same as a first love of long time freinds because they are all children.
Nyarl: {were all children when the met}
Nyarl: Aoyama's just telling the same story always with different pairs. No creativity at all. [/sarcasm] More convenient abstraction from the jaded "fans" trying to justify their jadedness...

Re: New case (741-???)
I actually really like Chiba, and think he is awesome with his over-the-top stupidity that he displays sometimes, as well as his laziness (I get a kick out of the "Chiba is fat" jokes, then again it helps that he's the character that I resemble the most
), so chalk me up as one of the few guys that will like this. Though it seems the obvious choice is Yumi. I mean, shit, those two are the only single officers left, right?
However, I really have to agree with the overwhelming majority in that Gosho is really, really reaching when it comes to this stuff. But, I guess that's what happens when you're at 700+ chapters of a manga with no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Aww, do we have to? Chiba's good as a bachelor. I'll miss seeing him and his crazy criminal roommates.
Maybe it will be a good mystery, at least.
Although I will laugh if his first love is an otaku like him (especially if that otaku is Yumi). Or maybe it's Yoko Okino.

Re: New case (741-???)
she had baggy hair, theres a possability of it being yumi, most likely not. her attitude is peculiar too. hmmm..either she's someone introduced as a small character once or she has yet to come into the series...or she's sato-san. (i saw a resemblance)

It would be awful if it were Sato. I mean, isn't practically the entire police department in love with her already?

I might wake up early and go running. I also might wake up and win the lottery. The odds are about the same.

Since I already believe Chiba to be the head of the BO, his childhood crush will turn out to be Kir or Chianti. This will thus lead into the next BO case.

Re: New case (741-???)
One thing that Gosho is always prepared to unintentionally hammer in is that many of his characters really are as one-dimensional as they appear, like Chiba. Chiba's purpose has always been very clear cut and he isn't even bad in that role. However, when Gosho gives him a childhood love and tries to make something out of nothing (again), it's made terribly obvious that the character is even more insignificant than we thought. If Gosho feels it necessary to utilize his favorite plot device outside of implausible disguises (childhood loves) for this character, we can only conclude that he really isn't outstanding in the least.pofa wrote: Aww, do we have to? Re: New case (741-???)
How is that a logical criticism at all? "If Gosho feels it necessary to utilize his favorite plot device (implausible disguises), then we can only conclude the Org. plot isn't outstanding in the least," makes exactly as much sense, but both are ultimately empty assertion. "I don't like it," is a much more meaningful and honest way of putting it, if less pretentious (though, still possibly retarded before the story is out in any readable form).Jd- wrote: One thing that Gosho is always prepared to unintentionally hammer in is that many of his characters really are as one-dimensional as they appear, like Chiba. You picked the wrong manga if you don't want that lovey dovy crap. Aoyama knows the mysteries are the main draw, but he's gonna go back to the premise until it makes you sick.Aoyama wrote: 5. What was the driving force behind your decision to draw Detective Conan?
I wanted to write/draw a romantic comedy whose main character was a detective that has been made small again.
