So I just finished reading the latest MK chapter. Awesome cliffhanger, but sadly, that's all it was. Gosho is definitely gonna spin this around and make Kaito fool Aoko. The best explanation he can make is that he was ambushed by Kid, and then woke up with his clothes(which would imply that Kid stole Kaito's clothes and disguised as him). When Aoko finds out, I doubt fully that it will be at the first chapter of a series, because of a forced scenario like this.

I have a bad feeling that he's just going to convince Aoko that he's wearing a Kaito-mask, but I really REALLY want Kaito to see some consequences for his actions. Well, at least the fanfic that comes out of this will be good? *sigh*
My DC Fanfic: Awaking and Arising - Shiromi writes her version of the end of the series. With 100% more lesbians and immortal zombie boys. And existential crises. Lots of them.

Because fan works are always better than the creator's... ::)

I take it the sole reason that this story will be bad (you said the fan work will be good, not better, implying that this case will turn out to be bad) is because Kaito will get out of this, correct?

Nah, I don't think it'll be bad. I just think that in fanfic, keeping up the status quo isn't so important. I do think that this story arc would be anti-climactic if Kaito pulls the wool over Aoko's eyes again. The story loses tension when there are no consequences, no danger. If there is a consequence, like Aoko knowing the truth, then that raises the stakes, makes it more interesting.

I hope you'll forgive me for perhaps coming off as what may be too wary of fan fic writers coming off pretentious due to declaring their work to be superior to the creator's. Skills should be rightly lauded, but an attitude like that... not so much.

Ultimately, I hope you and the others bring your A-game (both in skill and attitude) when crafting your adaptions of this case. :)

I'm a big-believer in FANfiction. I'm a fan first, writer second. But, being a fan doesn't mean that I can't offer criticisms to the works that I am a fan of. I can use my writing as a way to point out criticisms I have.

Some examples of people using Fanfic to offer critiques:
Ten Points by Ichthyophobia. This fic points out that Shinichi has been gas-lighting Ran about his identity.
Code Yellow by Cinija Nicija. This fic point out how ridiculous the world of DC looks if you're a Beika cop.
Welcome to Division One by V. Tsai. Another fanfic about how weird life is for the Beika police.
Assumptions by raytalities. A fic about Kogorou realizing how abusive he is.
And then there's my fanfic Afterlife which is basically me going through my laundry list of complaints and errors I've found in DC.
Oh, and I also wrote A Fatal Error, pointing out a plot hole in File #965.
My DC Fanfic: Awaking and Arising - Shiromi writes her version of the end of the series. With 100% more lesbians and immortal zombie boys. And existential crises. Lots of them.
Kogorou - A character study that seeks to answer the question: Why is Kogorou the way he is?

Spoiler pics for File 35 have come early.

No break next week—File 36 will officially be released on May 17th (we can expect spoiler pics for it as early as a week from today, or, more likely, we can expect them to come out next Friday).

Spoiler:
Yep, like I somewhat suspected, Kaito didn't even have to trick her—she's doing his work for him.

Spoilers for chapter 35 have leaked.
Spoiler:
A quick run-down:

1) Aoko thinks KID has disguised as Kaito to confuse her
2) There seem to be a set of trials to be done in the room
3) Akako breaks a pact with a demon because the info he brought about what's happening to Kaito is not enough according to her
4) There's a flashback of Kaito and Aoko when they were kids and talking about trumps which is probably linked to the trial
5) Kid is hurt from the stab he got by the broken jar while Aoko finds a door that seems to be the final trial

This story arc is reminding me more and more of the story arc in DC when Conan was shot in the cave. It's even an injury in roughly the same place.

Spoiler:
Only that one eventually led back to the status quo of the series.
I don't actively try to hope for a different result here, but I admit I do think I will be disappointed nonetheless if nothing comes out of this. Cause what's the point of coming back to this series and tell such a story if it doesn't end up amounting to anything?

Yeah, cause at this point, it's just tease after tease. Eventually, people are going to demand the goods—and when it comes to DC, specifically,
some will just tune out until others come to them, telling them, after so long, the goods have finally been delivered... or not, because such a long wait neutered the payoff, to the point it's like, "Oh, yeah, that happened..."

*pops in late with cookies*
Spoiler:
Much as I love seeing new Magic Kaito material... so far, these two chapters have felt terribly rushed, or at least having horrible pacing. I thought that maybe it was just that way in 34 to get to exciting Aoko and Kid stuff, but this chapter only half delivered, even if in major ways of Kaito becoming less and less able to hold himself up and Aoko stepping up as assistance and puzzle solving.

I think it would have helped to not have any cutting back to Hakuba/Nakamori/Akako and just left it as Kid and Aoko figuring out what to do, and then maybe when everything is resolved, showing how Hakuba knew where they were in flashback scenes. Let us get invested in what's happening before cutting back to things going on that I actually find terribly frustrating and killing my mood. (Since they make Nakamori and Hakuba both blame Kid for every small thing, when Hakuba should know better and Nakamori was literally staring at Kid when the pit opened and should have seen him try to avoid falling in to begin with.)

They gave Akako her demon back and made Hakuba blush when she called, though, I do like that.
And the concept and what we see of Aoko and Kid interacting is nice. The writing and pacing is killing me though. I just wish Gosho would actually try and defy our expectations, because I don't think he realizes the expectation is 'this will all amount to nothing even if it's so interesting that it's getting our hopes up' and not any actual hope with him as the writer.

I don't think he could see that, since because Aoko fell into the pit, she wasn't shining light on Kid anymore when he used the grappling hook; considering Nakamori and the priestess didn't know that Kid and Aoko were gone until the light was back on, I guess the room was just so dark that he couldn't see Kid trying to avoid the pit.

He looked at his watch after the blackout and could apparently tell the time well enough before Aoko ever turned on her phone light. Even if his watch hands glow (which would be en entire guess just to justify that), it would take a while for anyone's eyes to adjust enough to really read glowing hands. Either that, or he'd have raised his wrist on habit and just guessing at the time. Both of which are reaching and not outright shown.

He could tell Kid had arrived before Aoko directly put her light on the thief. And Kid reacted to the pitfall immediately, even before the heavy glass case fell. Aoko wasn't shown to be slipping until after, and while I'm not sure when her phone light turned off, it's hard to assume there was zero ambient light, even if it wasn't directly on Kid anymore. It's easier to assume that the two were so focused on Kid (which being the focus is kinda the point of his bright white suit) that they didn't notice what was going on with Aoko, and Kid only dropped after everything else did. It's much more of a stretch to think the entire room got pitch black again to where no one could see anything and yet Kaito knew how Aoko would be falling enough to bail his escape attempt and grab her.
