Re: What's on your mind?
I feel that what people call cultural appropriation is more often turned into cultural segregation...
Like seriously, as soon as something is foreign a white person can't touch it without 'appropriating'.
Wearing kimono? Appropriation.
Wanting a tattoo in Korean? Appropriation.
In some cases I get were they come from, but Jesus... What do you want? To keep your culture intact and to yourself or to lose it because your own people don't even contribute to it anymore?

I feel like most of the people who cry about "cultural appropriation" aren't even from said culture and have never really seen what true diversity/ sharing of cultures looks like :x

I'd post it to tumblr, but my personal blog has been dead for ages XDKor wrote:Are you posting this here cause if you post it in tumblr they'll eat you?
And I ain't posting that to my RP, art or Japan blogs...
Most of them, and then the latter half hasn't lived in their country of origin for a generation or two...LadyCider wrote:I feel like most of the people who cry about "cultural appropriation" aren't even from said culture and have never really seen what true diversity/ sharing of cultures looks like :x
Like, take kimono for example. Wearing one can be seen as cultural appropriation by some foreigners and foreign living people with Japanese backgrounds (and somehow they find it hurtful, even though the word kimono literally means thing to wear), but then you turn to Japan itself and they are actively loving people wearing kimono (properly) and encourage them to because barely anyone does wear them anymore, except perhaps on special occasions, and the kimono industry has more than halved in the last ten to twenty years...
For them, foreigners showing interest in part of their culture gives them hope they can save it. Would it then really be cultural appropriation?
But when you try saying that to someone fighting this appropriation you're accused of cherry picking. Because Japanese Americans have suffered and therefore you can't enjoy parts of their culture.
No wonder Trump won, he's trying to divide cultures as much as these people do...

You don't have to ^_^ I didn't mean you... I was dealing with such things in real life... I even had to translate news and reports and such regarding it... (even though I'm not a translator I somehow ended up being constantly treated as one...)Swagnarok wrote:I apologise.KaitoRizu wrote:Apparently no matter how much I try to avoid the politics I hate so much it'll still follow me everywhere :V that's what I get for being involved in the world's currently favorite topic :V also.. *cries T_T *
