Re: "Episode One : The Shortened Detective" 2h special to air in the winter
From Rum arc, Haibara's role is not dumbed down like in Bourbon arc with her involving in Rum's identity and the case of Haneda Kohji. Now with the special, I hope that her role in this arc will be big enough, like the past golden days of DC.

It's a non-canon TV special. Unless Gosho does a case about her BO days in the next 3-6 months in the manga, I can't see too much happening with her, in terms of her parents and APTX.eros1607 wrote:From Rum arc, Haibara's role is not dumbed down like in Bourbon arc with her involving in Rum's identity and the case of Haneda Kohji. We'll have to wait for an actual trailer... and even then, look at how much in the Movie 20 teaser trailer (from December 2015) was changed or not in the movie. Who knows how much of the same will apply, here?
1994–2003, right? (or is it 1994–2007?)

I think it was 1994-2003, when DC still topped the sales of Japanese market, before One Piece became No.1 manga in Japan (and all over the world)DCUniverseAficionado wrote:It's a non-canon TV special. As far as I know, no other manga on the Top 20 oldest manga list sells as well as DC, so it wasn't really that big of a drop.eros1607 wrote:I think it was 1994-2003, when DC still topped the sales of Japanese market, before One Piece became No.1 manga in Japan (and all over the world)DCUniverseAficionado wrote:It's a non-canon TV special. I was also talking about perceived quality (at least on here and on the DCW forums), as some see everything after the Vermouth arc as inferior, and even more see the Bourbon arc as inferior to everything that came before. And that should be a testament to DC's staying power—9-13 years past its prime, and it's still going really strong.

Quality is hard to gauge. I think the quality of DC is quite consistent but it can't help being repetitive in some parts which makes some people dislike. The length makes if suffer too. I think that the period that DC lost a lot of fan is the two 4-year period 2008-2011 that Gosho barely had anything related to the plot, just Subaru appeared now and then with the Department Store Bombing case in between.DCUniverseAficionado wrote:As far as I know, no other manga on the Top 20 oldest manga list sells as well as DC, so it wasn't really that big of a drop.eros1607 wrote:I think it was 1994-2003, when DC still topped the sales of Japanese market, before One Piece became No.1 manga in Japan (and all over the world)DCUniverseAficionado wrote:It's a non-canon TV special. Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about when I mention, "perceived quality drop."eros1607 wrote:Quality is hard to gauge. I think that if the Bourbon arc (and this whole thing with the Akais) had wrapped up quicker, say, 2011-2013 (or even earlier), I don't think so many people would have problems with it—for them, the length really magnified the already existing problems, like the repetition.

Megumi Hayashibara talks about being in the studio with Akemi's VA on her blog for the recording of this special.

The premise set by the teaser "What was everyone doing then and there?", so it might consist on different PoVs telling us what the characters were doing there and then.
"I shall revive again, again AND AGAIN!"
