Sure it is... Next season there will be a supernatural mystery series

Rather earbleeding theme song. The series seems to be hyped up a bit...

The Perfect Insider feels like the first season of an anime that would improve as time went on.
Spoiler alert: it's not getting that second season to improve. Apparently, it is based off of actual mystery novels which I shouldn't be surprised by.

What did you think of it? I thought the pacing was absolutely atrocious. Nothing was happening for like two months (irl) and they stayed there in order to solve the case yet they did zero investigation and just talked about small things. However the trick seems pretty original and I guess the motive fit the philosophical stuff it tried to do. I think it's just an adaptation of the live action series that adapt the novels, and the Subete ga F case was apparently 2 episodes long (believe it's 4 for anime) which seems exactly how long it should have been.kkslider5552000 wrote:The Perfect Insider feels like the first season of an anime that would improve as time went on.

I disagree with the pacing problems, I think it's more that it probably just works better in novel form. While the actual quality of the mystery aspect was at times questionable, how it was done and consistently focused on for such a long period of time was refreshing compared to other series (mainly Conan) going through new cases frequently and forever.
But at the same time, it was not great stuff and the last episode was a mix of intriguing and eye rolling.

When I say pacing problems I mean the actual content in the episodes really. They never even thought of trying to find the murder weapons/stuff used to amputate the corpse, never thought of going through anyones motives or connections to shiki or other people (the aunt was baking cookies and living happily after her husband got killed?) despite the main characters staying on the island in order to solve the case... All the side characters were just background fodder with nothing connecting them to anything. Don't think we even got to know half of their names... They just were there whether it was because they're on a trip or because they were working there.
The case itself is very simple when you look at it. Basically an impossible locked room murder and how the culprit got in and escaped. Think there were like 5 during Furinkazan with bunch more stuff to it that could be fleshed out to stretch the case to 20 episodes if Gosho wanted.
Novels aren't meant to be that long anyway so the way they divided the content must have been like 1/4 of how they're usually done. The Poirot TV series adapted some of the cases really well in just 1 hour (Murder on Orient Express was amazing).
