I liked the Force Awakens more when it was called A New Hope. :V
In general, I had mixed feelings about it.

So I went to see Star Wars today, which did a lot of things right the prequels failed at, and it was definitely interesting....

But the ending...


A cliffhanger.
A FREAKING CLIFFHANGER.

I get the feeling this isn't going to be the last movie in the Star Wars franchise XD.

Not entirely sure I'd call it a cliffhanger (other than the fact that last scene took place on a cliff). The overarching objective was to complete the map and finding Luke. And Luke was found, so the goal of this one plotline was achieved. It is a non-conclusive scene, though.

But I thought the series is made of trilogies, I expected there to be other 2 movies at least, so no wonder the ending for this episode is non-conclusive imo.

Of course there are other two movies, that's a given. I said the scene is non-conclusive, not the episode itself. Out of all ending scenes in the previous films, it really is technically the most non-conclusive one.

I - peace celebration party thing
II - Anakin and Padme wedding
III - Obi Wan gives baby Luke to his family
IV - medal ceremony thing
V - eh... they look at space at the end after Lando is gone...
VI - victory ewok celebration

VII - Rey finds Luke and forwards the lightsaber and both of them are looking at each other without saying a word for some reason.

I wouldn't necessarily call the scene inconclusive, nowhere near as much as V and III, which were both setting up numerically later movies--as is VII, of course. In VII's case, I'd argue that the final scene isn't conclusive because it's actually the conclusion of a specific quest that's been going since the opening craw. That it doesn't tie up everything that's going to go down between Luke and Rey doesn't do any damage to the scene, as convincing Luke to train Rey and the training itself is a quest for another day/movie, and as it's well known that this is the first of a trilogy, there's nothing wrong with setting up the jumping-off point for the movie; it gives us a great transition point to work from.

However, I will agree that the end of the scene is uncomfortably long. It should have cut as soon as Luke turned and we saw his face; the extensive silent staring is indeed probably something that happens between them, but it's not necessarily something that the audience needs to see, and it's just awkward.

Heh... Me too actually. One of my ancestors was a French privateer during the US's war for independence. He wasn't very good at it though, and was captured by the British on his second raid. He was later rescued and spent the rest of the war being a smuggler. That's pretty cool! I know my dad found his family's shield in Turkey, so his family probably were crusaders that headed there at some point. Part of my mom's ancestors were involved with sailing... Not sure if they were builders or just low ranked sailors, but they weren't extremely important :T
