On the topic of Star Wars:

I enjoyed it a lot. It felt more back to the spirit of the original trilogy, and I didn't really mind the cliffhanger ending; it's the first third of a trilogy, we've never been led to believe for a second that it wasn't, and the point is that they resolved the initially setup mystery of the movie, which is Where Is Luke with a side order of What Do We Do About Starkiller Base. It's not so much a cliffhanger as a moment of resolution that highlights how much is still unresolved, but all previous Star Wars movies have done this; Episode IV was actually probably the one that left the least unresolved, because they didn't know if they were getting another, but they still left Darth Vader's fate hanging. (III maybe counts in that we already knew how everything that was left hanging would be resolved, but eh. We're not holding the prequels up for quality writing anytime soon XP)

I'm just so glad that the series is back on form, and I'm looking forward to the other two, particularly a) more Rey always and forever and b) getting a bit more development for Darth Anger Management And Daddy Issues.

Something that my brother and I noticed and loved was the number of random background characters who were female. The First Order didn't have all-male bridges or units (there were Stormtroopers aside from Phasma who you could tell were female by their voices, also I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE PHASMA OMG yes it's been confirmed she's alive), the Resistance had women other than Leia in it, the random scavengers on Jakku were all sorts. I mean, it's sad that this hit us as unusual, but it's great that it was like that. ALL the female writing was great, especially Rey. HOLY SHIT IT'S LIKE WOMEN CAN BE THREE DIMENSIONAL CHARACTERS OR SOMETHING)

Also yes Finn and Poe bro-ing out to go find Rey in the next movie please and thank you (or maybe a lil more than bro-ing out because okay I ship it)

I don't think that Rey is related to any of the other main characters so far. I've been seeing a lot of people saying, "She must be Luke's daughter!" but I think that was be too simple, and we've had no indication of Luke ever marrying or having kids (weak evidence, I know) but, I think that she is connected to them in another way. I think that she was one of the new Jedi's being trained, a youngling. Then Ren attacked, killed everyone, but Rey survived/escaped. Then her memories were lost due to the trauma or they were blocked somehow. Then she was hidden, and by some bad luck, she ended up fending for herself. That means that the vision she has isn't of Ren's story, it's of hers, her own memories starting to break free. Then she starts remembering the training she went through as a child, and that makes her able to do the advanced force-using that took Luke a long time to learn. It also means that Leia, who also is strong in the force, is able to recognize her quickly, even though they parted when she was a small child, and Ren realizes right away that there is something important/familiar about her, since he probably also knew her as a small child. Maybe I'm just hoping that she isn't just yet another hidden Skywalker, that they aren't just retelling the original trilogy with different characters. That's what really bothered me about this movie. I could guess every single plot point before it happened because it was so similar to the other movies.
