It's kind of a shame that adolescence/coming of age stories in anime and JRPGs are a complete joke for how laughably bad they frequently are, because I really love those stories when they're actually done well. Especially when they incorporate weird supernatural/magical elements well.

tl;dr: I am conflicted about a volunteering project my Mom is trying to push me into, which I'm not sure I'm actually a good fit for.

Still trying to decide if I want to actually move ahead with volunteering at a local school for a particular project (related to FIRST). Mom says she'll cover the cost of the background check (required by the school district for anyone who wants to volunteer), so that's not really an issue anymore. The problem is that I sat and actually thought about the project, and I realize I'm not actually a good fit.
The goal of the project is to have the kids (4th-grade) build a robot (out of Legos, I think?) that does a task. They have to build the bot and program the bot. It's a bit like a miniaturized version of FIRST Robotics Competition, which two of my brothers participated in for their entire high school career. I did not participate in FIRST back in high school, chiefly because my high school didn't have a team while I was a student there.
Thing is, it really seems like the organizers are expecting volunteers to be either past FIRST participants (like my brother) or engineers (like my Dad) or other people who work in the associated fields. I have none of these qualities. I was a CS major for about a year in college, but then I realized that I can't actually code well and dropped out. My only actual certification is in Massage Therapy, which kinda doesn't apply for mechanics/robotics/programming.
Then there's the concept of actually building stuff. I am actually pretty bad at building stuff, at least when I don't have a clear set of instructions (with pictures/diagrams) telling me what to do when. We had a project my senior year of high school that required us to build a 'toy' car that would go up a steep slope, put a ring on a hook, and then go down the other side of the steep slope, without crashing or falling off the foot-wide apparatus. It was supposed to be a group project, but somehow I ended up without a group, meaning I had to do the whole project by myself. I had assistance from two engineers, and it still took forever to get ANYTHING working. The project frustrated me to the point where at least once I literally cried myself to sleep. I hated it. I do not do well with putting things together, especially when the thing is supposed to GO.
I want to work on encouraging kids to get into this kind of thing, and to nurture interest in science and math and technology... but I'm not sure this is the right way for me to do it. Yes, I want to work with kids... but... is this the right project for me to be part of? It's a great project, and I think it's totally awesome... but... while Dad and second-bro are perfectly suited for participating in this, I really think I'm kinda not. What do I have that I can bring to the table, to help the kids? Um... I'm good with math, except that I'm out of practice with half of it because I haven't had to use it. The teachers can probably help the kids at least as well as I'd be able to. Probably better. It's been ages since I've had any significant amount of interaction with anyone who isn't at least in their teens. If I restrict my definition to in-person interactions lasting longer than 5 minutes... when was the last time I had much interaction with anyone under 20? My youngest brother turns 25 this year and he's the youngest person I've had the chance to interact with on anything like a regular basis.
Mrr... I don't know. Am I just trying to talk myself out of this? Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not sure. I get the impression that Mom will yell at me if I don't sign up and do this thing... but... I'm still not sure I should. Even taking away the cost factor, and the complication of needing to set up an appointment at the DMV for the background check stuff.... is this actually a good idea? I really don't know.

For me I finally finished watching Daa! Daa! Daa! (UFO Baby). Pretty great anime, I would give it even 14/10 if only Chris would not appear in almost every episode. Because of that I give it 9/10, but all in all I pretty enjoyed watching it.

surprisingly no. The opposite if anything. I was just thinking of The World God Only Knows and realized (at least from what I can think of) that I couldn't think of a single anime or manga that compared to how well it's done that. I could think of a single video game that did, The World Ends With You, but even that doesn't focus on that element as much.

it also reminds me that I want to watch more of that playthrough of Life is Strange, despite the dialogue being on the line between believable and unlistenable.

I just realized yesterday evening that I need to create a Heist Note for my story. ~_~* I have no idea how to go about doing this, and I actually don't even know what the jewel is that KID is going to steal. I can create that later, I think. Maybe. I know the 'trick' of the heist is going to be smoke-and-mirrors and a game of chase through a foggy maze (the weather is foggy to begin with, and then KID adds smoke...). I will probably have at least a couple characters actually crash into each other...
