Biggest mistake made by any culprit?

Post by Brekclub85 »

Other than "oh committing a murder in general is a terrible thing", for all the plans ever made by any of the culprits in Detective Conan, which ones do you think that if they had thought about one particular detail, might have managed to go free or at least make it much harder for Conan to figure them out?

One I can think of is the arcade murder from volume 27. While this is more unfortunate timing than flat out bad planning, I think had the coin box not been the error it ended up being, the killer in that case might've been able to talk his way out of it.

Hard to tell. Many murderers didn't make any mistake at all, but they lost purely because some random event appeared that let Conan to think in different categories. Or something that actually should be destroyed due to some events (that were not controlled by the culprit) was not, and Conan found it.

I agree with Nemomon. There are times where the culprit doesn't make any mistakes at all, and Conan solves the case because he was lucky enough for a certain event to take place and help him solve the case/find the evidence. It gets so far from reality at times in my opinion. Like come on how lucky can that kid get? lol

The fact that some still pushed through to commit the act while Kogoro/Conan was there. :p

Any idiot who honestly thought he or she could get away with using Kogorō as an eyewitness for a fabricated alibi.

in my opinion, the 98% of the culprits have learned that no matter what the motive is, murder is not a solution, it's an act of cowardliness.
i hope this serves as a lesson in the future. :|

Haha I thought the same thing.
The culprit : "I am so smart that I am going to commit a murder in front of the most famous detective of the country!"

There have been a few times where the "knowingly commit a murder when a famous detective is around" thing was semi-justified by the fact they didn't know it was him until their plan was already in action and was too late to back out without losing their alibi.

I think the biggest mistake by many culprits is confessing to the crime when they could just "lawyer up" and challenge Conan to REALLY prove they did it. In many case the evidence is flimsy and circumstantial, wouldn't hold up in court without a confession.
If they feel remorse and actually WANT to confess and take off the burden, it's one thing, but there are also culprits who don't want to be caught at all.

I didn't mean that doing so is right, I respect much more the repentant culprits. What I mean is that from the abstract, practical point of view (not the moral one), it would make more sense not to confess because Conan in fact didn't nail them for good with real proof. But from the moral point of view of course the ones who repent and confess are better people, don't get me wrong.

Hard to tell as Nemomon said.
Spoiler:
Maybe in the Museum Armor Case when Conan asked the curator to draw the path to the bathroom and he started trembling knowing the pen he was going to use won't work.

i don't think conan hates anyone, not even culprits.

he only wants them to atone for their crimes.

by staying for a while in prison.

and 95% of culprits will redeem themselves in prison.

this is a great topic. I would go with the famous itakura case. The mistake of the culprit was so idiotic. He basically got charged because he forgot to wipe out his watch from itakura's fingerprint. The icing on the cake is that the guy admitted that he noticed itakura studying his watch and then didn't do anything about it. When I was reading it I couldn't help but to think it was bs and a stupid way to get him charged.
no pain no gain

One that springs to my mind is the murder that occurred in Jodie's apartment complex. The guy may genuinely have gotten away with saying what happened wasn't an intentional act, but as Conan points out, he had to say some last words to the victim before he fell.
