So I'm having a fever and this lit review ain't gonna write itself so here I am.
Honestly, I love doing research with this awesome guy. But you really can't just tell me "Cider, you're going to spend the next two weeks in libraries digging up old data until you find this this and this" and I did exactly that, then 2 days before the meeting send out an email saying "Oh, btw, I expect to see the first draft of your lit review and Cider, I'm going to need you to work on the St. Louis case study with me and help me with brute force data."
ughhhhhh WHAT IS A LIT REVIEW WTF AM I DOING UGGHHHHHHH

Honestly if something similar happened to me in my last year or so of college (something kinda like this happened in high school) I probably would've straight up said "no".

First of all, in case anyone is interested to check their position on the Israeli political compass for these elections, here's a good site for that: http://www.israel.electioncompass.org/ (you can skip the personal info stage and any question you can't answer)

Elections post #5

After the last few days, I feel my mind is breaking from these elections now, and I've started to feel less optimistic, but whatever.

I'll just go through all the parties.

(reference post: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4853&start=34950#p851223)

There are four (ish) religious parties that have a chance to enter the Knesset this time around.

UTJ: there's nothing to say about them. Their voters are specifically Ashkenazi Ultra Orthodox Jews (basically European ultra orthodox Jews). Their campaign (if there was one) was inside their own community and they didn't try to expend it to the rest of the public.

Jewish Home: This is a right wing and religious party made mostly of observant and traditionalists. Basically, if the Likud party are the equivalents of the republicans, these guys are even more to the right. In the beginning of the campaign, the media thought this party was gonna get up to 16 seats (last time they got 12). Its campaign tried to be hip and young and get secular voters. Its major blunder happened when the head of the party (Bennett) gave a high place on the list to a former soccer star of middle eastern descent, in order to try to appeal to more middle eastern Jews. Not only did the public laugh at this move and wondered why would a soccer player be fit to be a Knesset member, a riot started within the party and people threatened to leave. It also revealed that the Jewish Home was a very "white" party, so during this whole scandal, the party took flak for racism. Ever since, the party hasn't recovered. (also they joined forces with a smaller party even more on the right from them, but that's been the case since the 2012 elections).

Shas, and Yachad: Shas is a party made of middle eastern Jews (more specifically Sepharadi Jews). The thing about some of these religious parties, though, is that their decision maker/s are usually not the party themselves, but a rabbi of high authority. Shas's prime rabbi and spiritual leader died last year, so ever since then, there's been inner turmoil in the party cause there was no longer a super authority keeping order. As such, Eli Yishai left the party and created his new party Yachad, and since then, Yishai and Deri (Shas's number 1) are just against each other.
Yachad didn't really stand a chance to pass the voting threshold (3.25% of votes), so they joined powers with the most extreme party on the right in order to stand a chance. (hopefully they won't get in :-X )
Back to Shas, following the controversy with Yishai, Deri quit from Shas, knowing the public and rabbis would demand him to come back, and so they did, and he came back. It was a dumb and melodramatic publicity stunt everyone smelled from a mile away and no one took seriously.

Enough for now. I'll do one more post later about the last remaining ones I didn't mention yet.

Voted. Now it's only waiting until we get an idea of the results.

Cont.

Kulanu: Not much to say. This is more or less the new gimmick party of these elections. Its leader Kahlon used to be in the Likud, but he got tired of Netanyahu, so got out of the Likud and created his own party that's focusing primarily on social issues.

Yisrael Beiteinu: This party is a one-man show of its leader, Avigdor Lieberman, a soviet born who moved to Israel 3 decades ago or so. The thing about him is that he chooses what his party will look like, and before every elections he fires those he doesn't think or needed anymore and refreshes his list (before this elections he more or less fired all the ministers that were from his party). He is a very aggressive person and was a horrible foreign minister. His problem is that the police is always after him and before every elections, he's being accused of some new thing. This time around, however, his closest people were the ones who got accused of corruption, which completely ruined his campaign from the start. He also can't seem to decide what his agenda is. One day he acts like a rather centric person, the next day he's at the extreme right. He'll be lucky to pass the threshold of 3.25% and get into the Knesset. Ironically, Lieberman is the one who advocated the most to increase the threshold (it used to be 2%), so if he doesn't get enough votes and won't get into the Knesset, he has only himself to blame.

Meretz: A left-wing party. The only party that constantly advocates for secular marriages and same sex marriage. Hopefully they pass the threshold.

The Joint (Arab) List: This is basically the combination of 4 past parties (3 of which were Arab parties, the fourth was the communist party that consisted of mostly Arabs). Due to the increase of the threshold, all of those parties faced the danger of not entering the Knesset, so they all decided to form one big list. The problem is that now this party consists of: Arab nationalists, Islamists, separatists and communists, and each "inner party" has a veto right, so go figure how they'll manage to make decisions. Oh, and they have some terrorist sympathizers in this party who used to praise the middle east dictators in the past (pre-Arab spring), but whatever.

According to above compass it looks like I'd hang out with Zorro's League--I mean, Zionist Union... :P
