VIZ translation of Volume 74

I know it will be a long time before VIZ releases Case Closed Volume 74, but is anyone else curious about how they're going to explain the Kansai accent aspect of the Conan VS Heiji case?

In my experience, the Viz manga is exactly the same except with some different names.

It's referred to in translation as "Osaka accent", and there's no attempt to word around it. They use a different mode of speech to represent Heiji and Kazuha's kansaiben (you can see this in Baaro episodes involving the two of them; they use a lot of the Viz dialogue with little or no change).

Well, the Case Closed manga is completely unavailable to me, so I really had no way of knowing what it was called in previous instances it was mentioned.

Come to think of it, I could ask the same question about the pattern in the names of Inubushi's children (Demon Dog case, Volume 70) and the Shiranpuri case (Volume 58)

S/he is right. Most of the words Heiji talks in are:
"ya" = you
"yer" = your,
"o'" = of,
"shoulda" = should have,
"hafta" have to,
all words that end in -ing drops the "g": doin' = doing nothin' = nothing, imagin' = imaging, etc.
"doncha" = don't you
"em" = Them
"gals" = Girls

This is what is consider as "kansai" dialect.

I think they'll handle them straight, that's been their tendency.

I have a little less than half the issues they've released. They don't do much adapting.

Handling the Shiranpuri case straight doesn't create as big a problem as handling the Demon Dog case straight. Here's why:
At the beginning of the Demon Dog case, Heiji said the name of the victim in Tokyo (Shinichi Kudo) is rather funny. The problem being that Shinichi's name in Case Closed is Jimmy Kudo. Here comes the core of the problem: Changing the name of the victim to Jimmy Kudo destroys its connection to the 8 virtues. However, keeping it as "Shinichi" means Heiji's/Harley's comment on the name makes no sense.

Keep this in mind:

In the Viz version of the case that became episode 460, they actually wound up going through a bizarre runaround to connect with the Japanese names of the Detective Boys in order to explain a numbers game. They'd probably do the same thing there.

Yeah, they had a shiritori nameplay with their names in that case, so Viz just added a TL note saying something like 'in the original Japanese version, George, Mitch and Amy are called Genta, Mitsuhiko and Ayumi'.

Boy was that case confusing as hell in the Viz Edition.
