Maybe 27-28 (Kogoro's Reunion Murder Case)?

Yeah I completely forgot about that, it had the martial arts thing that Eri copied from Kogoro didn't it?
Kogoro isn't just dead weight like here, even though it did happen, Conan's memories were making his deductions for him and Kogoro told him that there's no way they'd know that shooting happened just yet (just like during that one case Heiji said that "Are you stupid? Do you think the one who's the thief equals to being the culprit?", the shooting could have been a trick or nothing at all).

Oh geez, that scanlation looks terrible. (ETA: I meant the one in the spoiler space.)

Okay, who thought it was a good idea to flip the scan? I feel someone should go through the manga and retranslate the worse off chapters, but that's not going to happen any time soon...k11chi wrote:Seems very old.usotsuki wrote:Oh geez, that scanlation looks terrible. Getting back on topic, Kogoro seems like he can do well enough on cases if he's motivated enough. (It got personal, someone threatened Ran/Conan/maybe Eri, etc.)

No need. There's official translations up to 53 at least.
I might even have a scan somewhere from a dead tree edition of that case - looks like North Star Express.

Lots of older manga when they were first translated were flipped. I always figured it was because they wanted to have less confusion for people who were not used to reading manga :Vdarkest absol wrote:Okay, who thought it was a good idea to flip the scan?k11chi wrote:Seems very old.usotsuki wrote:Oh geez, that scanlation looks terrible. I don't know about you guys. But I feel this is getting off topic. We're supposed to be insulting or praising Kogoro here, not the somewhat poor rendition of the manga pages.
To be on topic. Yes. Kogoro has a few cool moments. Either he bumps his hard just hard enough to nearly knock him unconscious or he really cares about the people related to the case (or the person resembles Eri). And every once in a while, he will make a smart remark that helps the case a lot. So mainly, it depends on the situation whether he's just a bumbling idiot or an almost decent detective.

In the very end if he cannot show us how smart he is, he at least can impress us with his fighting skillsVan Keiji wrote:To be on topic. Yes. Kogoro has a few cool moments. Re: You guys know what being insulted means?
That's honestly not entirely correct. I know it seems that way, and often times, it happens, but it's not a standard. Many cases provide the viewer with hints and key events before the final deduction. I know for sure that some of the earlier cases were laid brilliantly, and left hints all over the episode's span. That's actually why I'm re-doing a DC marathon, some of the classic stuff is just golden.Kleene Onigiri wrote:Kogoro (and the reader) often don't have a key part to solve the mystery. That's why Kogoro (and the reader if you didn't figure out the key part) can get the wrong deduction. That's not being stupid, that's making Conan and co. purposefully look smarter than they are.
WOW! Great list! Kudos to you and all the guys doing that wiki, it really pulled through all those years.Chekhov MacGuffin wrote:DCWiki has a topic on this. DCwiki will soon become the singularity.

Just to clarify though, this isn't to praise or put down Mouri's character. It's just to talk about the other options Gosho could have ventured into with regards to his character development. I sometimes feel that there could have been other options overall.
I agree at any rate, Mouri has his moments, but some others are cringe-worthy. I honestly made the thread when my deduction came out almost exactly like him. My heart was completely shattered hahahahaha. xD

I understand that it really isn't really about praising him, but I was trying to make what I was saying a little shorter. Guess it gave the wrong impression. I'm trying not to write a whole page for a post.1434120 wrote:Hey, as TC, any discussion is good discussion.Van Keiji wrote:I don't know about you guys. But I feel this is getting off topic. Definitely! Too bad the movies aren't cannon... We just need him to think more like he does in the movie and Shinichi would be able to do some more research instead of watching over Kogoro. But that would also decrease the amount of experience he's getting from the cases... He needs all of that he can get.k11chi wrote:Movie 9 definitely does him justice.

They're not canon as long as the the author/creator doesn't acknowledge it.Van Keiji wrote:Definitely! Too bad the movies aren't cannon...
