I highly doubt it was Aoyama's idea to do MK1412. He's got nothing to do with Shogakukan's marketing strategies. It's more likely that Gosho's editors asked A1-Pictures to do a series.
I don't know what Gosho meant by "I like the fact that Conan brings me money", but I'm pretty sure it's not his main motive for continuing the series. He's already rich (he even talked about buying a house on a japanese island if I remember well), and most of his interviews are tongue in cheek.

Shogakukan sure has full licence of Conan, but since Kaito is a different work, I think Aoyama has still the full rights, he must have given his approval. I just remember what A1 did with Oreimo, they didnt made the second season very well.
And people cant have enough money.

Shogakukan should still have the full licence for Kaitou as well because they would have needed it to release the Treasured Edition of the manga in 2011, the 2010-2012 tv specials, as well as the Kaitou chapters that ran in Shounen Sunday (Midnight Crow) that came out during 2014.

It would probably be out of his hands to choose what studio gets to animate it and when, but he should have the right to say that something can't be done if it would interfere with the story later on.

Usually when a manuscript of a manga is submitted to a manga company, that content becomes owned by that company and they hold the rights for a very long time.

Shogakukan's name appears even more prominently on the old MK episodes, where it appears between the credits for ytv and TMS, than Conan.

Everything was on the up and up for this series. This series was not, however, Gosho's idea or something he was pushing to have made. What almost definitely happened: Someone else in the chain came up with the idea, proposed it to him and the others in the Conanverse camp, and worked out the details. Ultimately, Gosho made the new Magic Kaito chapters to coincide with this series and added in some details/insights for the new material so that it would all gel nicely in the end. His attitude toward it thus far has been along the lines of "They made one before and that was good, but if they are motivated to make more Kid anime, that's OK with me."

I'm slightly disappointed they chose Golden Eye as the Valentine's episode. Just a slight bit, but disappointed nonetheless.

I'm wondering how they're going to stretch Golden Eye out to two episodes, when the special managed it pretty neatly in just one.

Other questions this raises for me: are Dark Knight and Midnight Crow going to be two episodes each? If they're two each, Will they do the Teleportation case or Red Tear? If Dark Knight is one, will they do both? Or will they do that thing where they splice chapters together (as in episode 8) to pad out the episode?
