Re: ESPIONAGE: Campaign Round (Prep Phase)
I don't really like the idea of agreeing to perpetually exchange votes no matter what.
First, I'm not sure how many people would actually stick to that, and whether it is wise to stick to it if the other party, for example, openly declares they're the spy.
Second, guaranteed votes reduce people's motivation to participate and help town.
Finally, if many decide to go for such deals, that locks the rest out and makes it very hard for them to earn votes (they'd have to convince someone to break his/her deal and vote for them). The problem with that is that when we have little idea who is who, who gets locked out doesn't depend on how likely they are to be spies.
That said, I'm not saying really speaking against Jd-. He's only offering one such deal, so it's not going to mess up the game. What I don't want is such deals to become commonplace.
With that in mind, I'd offer a two day vote exchange deal, and I plan to consider another during day 2. I believe such a deal is much more realistic than a guaranteed vote no matter what until the campaign voting phase ends, and doesn't cause the problems listed above.

Re: ESPIONAGE: Campaign Round (Prep Phase)
@Togop: It's not something I'd do with all my votes, certainly, since that'd mean that I'd have no votes left to actually influence the flow of the game and that would just be pointless, imo. I understood it more as a mutually insured survival (getting at least one vote each day) until further notice. Obviously the no matter what is to be taken with a grain of salt. If I seriously thought Jd- was a Spy I would terminate the deal (and I'm sure he'd do the same). [@Jd-: Correct me if I'm wrong
]
On the other hand, since there will be no tangible info to act on until at least one Detective dies (hopefully leaving behind some info), I don't see the harm in exchanging one vote like this and probably won't see much reason to terminate the deal.
For the rest of my votes, I'm only prepared to offer a one day vote exchange at the moment, since I want to keep my options for Day 2 open.

Done! Expect a +1, my new BFF! (Sorry, dumytru--you were just a few minutes too late. We may still ally as the game goes on, never fear!)Fujiwara wrote:I see that the campaign voting is already showing effects. It's certainly something else...
Here o/Jd- wrote: I'm willing to exchange +1 votes in perpetuity with one other player. In other words: For the remainder of the game, no matter what, we'll vote at least +1 for each other every phase. Anybody interested?
You're definitely right on all counts. Of course, should some information come to light saying that Fujiwara is the Spy or if she heard I were the Spy, I'm sure both of us would be hesitant to choose that loyalty over our civilianship. And, naturally, there's also no obligation for anyone to follow through on their promises to vote. It may make them suspicious going forward if they bail or deceive someone, but there's no in-game penalty for it. I, personally, have no intention of breaking this early agreement but I will understand when votes don't pan out as people promise going forward.Togop wrote:I don't really like the idea of agreeing to perpetually exchange votes no matter what.

On a related note: I'm going to give you (Togop) +1 for this upcoming phase simply for being forthright about what could be taken advantage of at a later point. That seems like a fellow civilian's genuine concern to me (at this stage, at the very least).
EDIT:
Woah, we posted at almost the same time. I could've just waited and quoted your post--would've saved me some typing.Fujiwara wrote:@Togop: It's not something I'd do with all my votes, certainly, since that'd mean that I'd have no votes left to actually influence the flow of the game and that would just be pointless, imo. I don't think you own a cat, otherwise you'd never call them unfaithful. No vote for you either.Nemomon wrote:Too bad cats are super unfaithful creatures (unlike dogs who are the best friends), so sorry - You won't get a vote from me.Kaito Lady wrote:I have kittens!

Seriously though, the fact cats get the chance to run away but come back if you let them inside means a lot. Also, cats can get very attached, like Harry, who is a big fan of almost constant cuddling nowadays.

As you'd expect, it won't show its loyalty the same way as dogs do, but cats certainly get attached to you.

Currently I don't have a cat, but I used to have a few. There's more pressure if we imply that x or y won't be getting enough votes and so'll die. This phase, what info are we getting? Maybe the mutual voting can give us something later but it could just have us looking deeper and deeper into nothingness. I get the point of this round is to find the most Townie-looking people, but that's easier later on in the game when we have stuff to go off. Why not pick up on "slips" (whether you genuinely believe them or are just feigning) as accusations and see how people respond. Sure, no one wants to die so defensiveness doesn't automatically mean guilt, but it could give us something to go off, you know?
How long until the end of the phase btw?
