Shuukichi and Yumi flashback scene was very sweet. I wonder if the flashback scene that according to Shuukichi happened about 10 years ago and the culprit saying 'My victory is secure. It was decided 10 years ago' has some connection.
he just had a match tho right?
i wonder who the opponent was....

Okay, file is out, so I'm brainstorming.
Spoiler:
Searching google for something related to a slope in Tokyo and Kiyomasa, gave the result of Shikyonanji Zaka at Ikegami Honmon-Ji.
When you enter the temple from the Somon Gate, you will see stone steps is called Shikyonanji Zaka. It is said that this slope with its 96 steps was dedicated by Kiyomasa Kato during the Keicho age (1596 to 1615 during the Edo period). While going up these steps, why not stop and look back at the beautiful scenery unfolding behind you.
And this Shikyonanji Slope does evoke a certain element of a dreadful name, only not the kind the DB were probably thinking of. It translates to: Difficulty-of-maintaining-faith Slope.

The problem with this solution is that I'm kinda projecting, and in Japanese, this name might not sound that dreadful. Plus, there's still the issue of the numbers 7 and 3 that aren't really resolved here.

Speaking of which, with the mention of a spear and the number 7, it's very likely it's a reference to the Seven Spears of Shizugatake, which Kiyomasa was part of. There's another reference in Kiyomasa's life that relates to the number 7, I.E. the Seven Year War, but considering the mention of a spear, it's more likely the Seven Spears is part of the solution.

All of the above considered, whatever the location is, it should be close, because even if they solve the case, there's still over an hour drive back to Yamanashi. I'm pretty sure Gosho brought up a little Chekhov's Gun - the patrol car. After the case is over, Yumi or whoever will probably drive Shuukichi back to Yamanashi in the police car, so they could speed back before the time is up (unless Shuukichi gives up on the match, of course).

Dunno if the culprit's mentioned shogi tiles are of any importance, but maybe later I'll write more about it. Regardless, both Shuukichi and the culprit mentioned an incident from 10 years ago, and Shuukichi said the match he had left a bitter aftertaste, so I'd say it's probably related.

If Shuukichi lose this game by forfeiting or running out of time, what would happen? Is it a irreversible tragedy that will make him ineligible of having the 7 titles forever? Does he need to win this game or he can win the 7th title next time? Does anybody get what I am saying? Hahah. What I mean is, what's the importance of winning this on-going game right now besides having the 7 titles earlier (and possibly asking out Yumi earlier) and having the consecutive winning streak..

Whatever happens, I don't care. Let's just move on to the Akai family thingy. I'm hoping for the best for the two of them. :D It's not that I don't like their story. I think it's just the timing to present it, unless Shuukichi is the second brother.

EDIT: Well apparently, it's time wasted if he doesn't win this game. So.. there's the suspense.

^This.I really like that pairing, but a case like this for file 900 was just disappointing for me.I still hope to see a bit of the mystery child.

I'm actually surprised that some people are trying to solve the case,I personally completly gave up on that.

I've noticed that first four '00' chapters weren't plot related, but starting from 500th chapter, every '00' chapter was, excluding 900th chapter. I still hope that we will get some interesting information, e.g. about the mystery girl and/or the middle brother either at the end of this case or in the next case.

Isn't it highly possible that Scarlet Return set of chapters was going to be the chapter 900 plot thing, but Gosho did it earlier because he wanted to enjoy the World cup? Then a normal case could be running while he is taking his break time rather than leaving a plot end hanging and taking a 2 week break then. Honestly I don't really understand why chapter 900 not being plot related is bothering so many people O_o

Maybe Scarlet Return is sort of a lead in to something that may happen or at least begin to happen later this year in the manga the same way that Dark Photograph (of Ethan Hondou) and the two cases involving Eisuke (The loan phone call and the place where Eisuke and his mother used to live) were a set up going in to the battle at the hospital to hold on to Kir.

Who knows, maybe Shuukichi could become involved in the plot even though he may not be directly tied to any of the main players?
I hope that I can find someway to contribute to the community even if it's just random crack theories and looking things up for people who can't find the information they need.

For the Shogi case

The Shogi tile labeled second move was the spear tile and had overlaping circles with a kanji seven and three in them, cut down the middle by perpendicular line.

(Wiki stuff)
Kiyomasa is one of a group called the Seven Spears of Shizugatake, three of these men were awarded more handsomely (value measured in Koku) than the other four and Kiyomasa is one of them. The battle of Shizugatake being where they actually earned the seven spears name. They were defending Hideyoshi from invaders that wanted to prevent him from rising to power as a replacement for Oda Nobunaga who was killed before this battle.

I think the "middle of the slope with a dreadful name" is Shizugatake. according to Jisho (japanese dictionary website) possible translations for that name are "low life peak" or "poverty peak"

no idea where to go from there....

Hmm poverty peak... I'd like some kind of exposition of the third world in DC, that'd be cool.

Also I'm really interested in how this goes 10 years back...

Extremely unlikely. It'd take them about 5 hours by car to get from Tokyo to Shizugatake.

I doubt shuukichi will say anything direct to conan, gosho has this thing for mysterious arguments or sentences. My guess is that shuukichi will finally say "Territory/area/domain" which will indicate that he is the middle brother
