Finished watching the original Dragon Ball today. I was almost done with it about 2 months ago but the last few episodes of AOs were a bit difficult to go through so I took a break.
I pretty much liked it, especially the first arc with Pilaf, cause those episodes contained one of the best depictions of a fantasy adventure I've ever watched.
There was also a decent setup for the theme (and accidental theme) that covered the entirety of DB and DBZ.
The anime filler was annoying at times (not to mention kinda contradictory to later events), but that was the case for DBZ too, so it's nothing new. It could have used some more foreshadowing, but then again this manga was written as things went along, so yeah...
I think my only real problem most of the time was that the show repeated this beat way too much:
Goku gets hit by a powerful attack
Goku falls to the ground and it seems like the enemy won
Goku then stands up and acts as if the said attack wasn't that big of a deal
The enemy is surprised
I can see why this was never aired in Israel. The first half has a lot of dirty moments that wouldn't go well for a kids show here.
All things considered, though, I still like DBZ and DBK more.
(prepare for some unedited ramblings

)
Speaking of Dragon Ball Kai, the first 98 episodes that aired a few years ago fixed most of the problems in DBZ (i.e. the filler). Now, Kai continues with the Buu arc, and it looks really problematic.
Apparently the Japanese version that airs on TV is going to be shorter from the international version that will air around the world, which is going to contain 69 episodes.
If the purpose of Kai was to get rid of filler, then it's not going to be the case for Buu arc, since it's already evident they're leaving fillers in the long version (and even in the short version). And the edits in the shorter version that airs in Japan right now are really sloppy, with weird music placement.
They reduced the entire Saiyan arc, Freeza arc and Cell arc into pretty good paced 98 episodes, and yet they need the Buu arc (which AFAIR is a shorter arc in the manga) to be 69 episodes? I'm disappointed Toei.
(end of ramblings)
tl;dr: Once it's over, I think I'll end up still preferring the DBZ Buu arc over the DBK Buu arc. Both will apparently contain filler, but at least the original won't have such sloppy edits and weird music placement.
Okay, currently watching:
Fairy Tail (2014)
Dragon Ball Kai (2014)
Rewatching Sailor Moon on Hulu as they add more subbed episodes every Monday
In about a week and a half I'll have Sailor Moon Crystal too
Will probably add a World Masterpiece Theater anime soon
I'm kinda on and off with watching Miyazaki and Ghibli films
Lastly, I also have a weekly Pokemon episode played in the background while I'm doing other things.
