Discussion Thread: Detective Conan Files 899-902: Shogi Tournament

Seriously enough with Conan teaming up with whoever, and show us some bad guys! We need a real BO member alongside Rum. The bad side of the story is really outnumbered by the good side. That's not in the benefit for us witnessing an extraordinary final showdown. Conan, Shuichi, Shukichi, Jodie, Sera, Unknown Child, FBI, Kir, Shiho, Rei and his agency are too much. On the other side we only have the Boss, Gin, Rum, Vodka, Chianti, and Korn. Not sure if Vermouth is on their side really. They are way outnumbered, we really need 3 or 4 new loyal members to spice the plot up!

I can even say that I'm completely certain that more BO members will be introduced

Yeah I guess so as you say, but for characters to be introduced they need an arc or so, unless they would be introduced like Chianti & Korn directly without us seeing them in action only a couple of times; which is boring. As refered in The Clash Of Red & Black arc, when we were around file 600, the anime stated that we're half way through the series, so we can deduce that the series should end around file 1200 or 1300 maximum. We still have Rum's arc & the final showdown, which will take approximately and at least 200 files. Which leaves us with only 200 or less other files to introduce more characters. The conclusion is; time is ticking and Gosho should speed the plot development up by 3x to catch up with time and for the readers interest.

maybe he'll introduce more BO members in this arc with Rum. Since Rum is close with the Boss, a confrontation with him will first of all give us hints about the Boss, and since he is supposed to be higher ranked than gin, he'll most likely have his one "team" of coworkers where I hope one of them is at least comparable to vermouth in terms of strength and intelligence. I doubt Rum will be working as a lone wolf, nor do I believe that he'll be hanging around gin. I actually hope there'll be some tension or rivalry between Rum and Gin.

I agree with you & hope for your ideas to be heard or thought about by Gosho. It would really be tense, and exciting after so much disappointment. But I disagree with you on the part of the rivalry between Gin & Rum. I would like to see these two team up. They would be semi invincible. If they had a personal rivalry we'll have another topic added to the unknown topics shelf, which I don't see as something interesting due to that shelf's excess of topics so far. And another derived grudge between executives inside the BO would seem boring to be honest. It would weaken the BO's advantage point. Enough with Chianti & Korn vs Vermouth, Akai vs Gin, Jodie vs Vermouth, Bourbon vs Akai, Gin vs Bourbon, Shinichi vs Gin, Gin vs Sherry, Gin vs Vermouth, and Vermouth vs Sherry. They are good enough for us to wonder about them and wait for their developments.

i didn't really mean something like a grudge, but rather a tension as in, as they work to fullfill their mission, whether it's together or apart, at the end of they the day, it'll always be a competition to whom the Boss will rely on the most

Mmmm, it's somewhat something to see but for me personally, I would rather see them team up to match up against Conan when he teams up with Shuichi, Shukichi, Bourbon, or possibly Heiji. It could possibly create a challenging team confrontation, just imagine if it happens!

before I can agree with you on that, I'll have to see who Rum's coworkers are, if he has any. They might be enough to satisfy me to a team confrontation.

Fair enough to say this, they may turn out to be Holmes freaks or have high deductive skills, since the BO have some links to Sherlock Holmes and are fond of him, which was proven by naming the APTX4869 drug "the incomplete detective", and having the password for the drug's data as Holmes' former name chosen by Conan Doyle "Shellingford", though we still don't have any other link other than these from the case where Pisco appeared.

so far with the exception of Tequilla, Pisco, Kir, and Sherry it seems like the BO members like working in sets of 2
Gin and Vodka
Gin and Rye
Vermouth and Calvados
Vermouth and Bourbon
Chanti and Korn
Scotch and Bourbon ?
I kind of would like to see Rum have some kind of partner and have a big team confrontation with the main characters, meaning Conan teamed up with one or more of his equals.

He also don't like Bourbon (and Vermouth) because they're very secretive, unlike Gin who actually is very open and in a way simple minded.

I still think that Rum actually is the Boss in disguise, but if not, I hope Rum and Gin will never meet. I want the BO being a group that do tasks from multiple perspectives, it would be boring if they would combine together.

well, since Gin is someone the boss trust and put in charge for all the operations it's no wonder he wouldn't feel any competition, but Rum is something else!! We can't know for sure how gin will react to someone who is even closer to the boss than him.

If Kir, after all an agent that's still under surveillance, was able to find out about Rum, and even Akai heard about Rum, then there's no way Gin wouldn't hear or even worked once with Rum. The only problem will be if Rum will try to give orders to Gin. He might go angry. Or he might've already received orders straight from Rum, and sometimes from the Boss himself, and therefore he doesn't mind Rum bossing around.
