I'm Currently Watching...

This will sound very redundant on my part.

I like Attack on Titan, but Eren is a really bad protagonist. He's too angsty and too passive. For the majority of the focus he got when they were outside the wall, he didn't make a decision and just listened to what others told him he should do (only when things got crappy he finally decided to do something). Heck, ever since the events after the clipshow, he's mostly been following others and unable to think for himself.
To be fair, however, part of it is also due to the pacing. Whenever Eren has focus, we have him voicing-over or jumping to a flashback, and it really gets frustrating when it becomes so excessive, especially when more interesting things happen in the background. It's also the reason why I liked the first episode with the female titan - Eren wasn't there to voice-over.

The only other character I have a gripe with is Mikasa. I kinda wish she'd have more development than just be like "must protect Eren". I know that's not her only trait, but this does seem like her major motivation.

Armin and Jean are great, though, and I have no complaints about them. Jean actually has the better character arc so far.

Yeah, Eren's got some great flashbacks but all his interesting characterization seems to be in the past. And Mikasa is a hardcore badass but it's almost a joke on itself how whenever just about anything happens her first thought is "IS EREN OKAY". The show spends more time developing dozens of minor characters just so it hurts more when they all get killed off every 3-4 episodes.

Armin is my outright favourite, though. ARMIN FOR PRESIDENT.

I'd put the Hunter X Hunter movie above what I normally see from mid-series shonen movies, but below the best...1/3 or so of the Conan movies.

It was alright. A couple of episodes made me cry. Mostly though the main guy was a hell of an in-universe Gary Stu and the ending was a wee bit "bwuh?"

I just watched through Jormungand again and the new season, Perfect Order, and really enjoyed it. I think I was paying more attention this time, which helped. The ending is a little dark, though. I kind of wanted a happier ending for Jonah, but the series did start off being about a child soldier getting hired as the bodyguard for an insane arms dealer, so it's a bit "if you think this story has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention". Fewer main characters died than expected, though, which was nice.

1. It does have this weird thing where I find certain scenes sadder than I really should.
2. So far I'd take Gary Stu over moron shonen protagonist #10000.
