Re: DC Cinematic Universe : Man of Steel

Post by Conan-chandesune »

Man of Steel has been bashed by the critics. Very badly. I actually will give it a 9/10. It's a GOOD movie. Krypton is being explored in a mad-science Morrison way. The interaction between Clark and his pair of parents are high points. The fights are also SPECTACULAR. The score is awesome and makes me want to jump. There small bits of All-Star and Earth One in there as well as LOTS of Birthright (which, for me, is the definitive origin of Superman.) as well as more John Bryne-y moments (Zod's last stand). It was advertised that "It is not a comic book Superman", which is not true except at one point. My main problem with the movie is Mark Waid's (the writer of Birthright). It contains spoilers so i will simply link to it. http://thrillbent.com/blog/man-of-steel ... you-asked/
Nevertheless, if you are okay with this, the movie is almost as good as the Avengers. If you are like me, Avengers will get a 9.9/10 for STAYING TRUE to the characters.

No it's not. You're fanboying over an otherwise mediocre movie. The movie did nothing to make the viewers care about any character. The entire time Clark is just whining about not knowing who he is, telling the people who raised him that they aren't his parents, and just emo-rolling around the country hiding. They would've been much better served to just spin-off of Smallville. The only difference between this movie and the complete piece of crap that was Green Lantern, in my opinion, is that they didn't overdo the CGI this time. That tells me that DC needs to just stick to street-level heroes like Batman and Green Arrow, because they cannot be assed to do a proper "Superhero" movie.

GinRei, It's a polarising movie. I posted about the "kill" part as a fault on another forum i frequent and multiple people were like "the fight scene is better than the whole Avengers movie". I liked it, and not too much. I however do think it is better than the previous Superman movies. And i think Clark's character development was handled well in the first half of the movie, not so much in the second half. Also, please, Green Lantern was terribad. Man of Steel is better in many ways than the CGI. I am not fanboying at all. Also, "almost as good as" was just to calm down the fanboys, since i got badly attacked in the other forum when i posted "less than" and "even more less". Sorry, I just didnt want to get attacked. Also, word's coming that they will try to release a sequel by Christmas 2014.
**Peace**

so, is Man of Steal good?

as far as I've heard it wasn't really well received, but the action scenes in the trailers looked kinda too far fetched...how were they?

The action was undoubtedly good. It's the other parts that were a problem. See for yourself. I dont want to spoil it.

If you discount the worse case of Camera-Shake I've ever seen, that is.

I had the camera shake problem with Transformers, which the reviewers compare it to, but this was far less pronounced and the camera shake in the aerial Zod fight was quite acceptable for it was video game like.

It wasn't a bad movie--the stuff on Krypton was quite fun, and the battle sequences were good at capturing the immense speed and strength involved in their battle--but it was quite... pretentious at times. I kinda liked the depiction of him having trouble controlling his powers as a child, but that "wish to be normal" that he expressed repeatedly as a child didn't seem to have any bearing on his adult self. I dunno... he just seemed to slip very seamlessly into being "Superman" (and holy hell were they playing up the Jesus parallels). It was very, very heavy, too. I don't know, I just feel like it could have done with a touch more levity at times. Isn't Superman meant to be uplifting, with "dark and heavy" being Batman's thing?

Yes, he is. But Goyer/Nolan think that only "dark and brooding" superheroes can be good at the box office, it seems. Also, the transition was just a bit seamless, but nevertheless, acceptable at least, i felt.

I don't know if they think that's all that can sell, but rather that's what they're best at making. They likely decided it's better to put their all into a dark Superman (regardless of what you felt of the film, you could tell they tried hard) rather than half ass a sunshine Superman. I mean, none of the Marvel Studio movies were that dark until Iron Man 3.

I still say the best movie DC will never make is Shazam. So much freaking potential, but they'd be insanely butthurt when he became more popular than Superman.

GinRei is correct. They will focus on the "BIG 7" first, even though they are already well known in other media. It's sad. I am liking his new origin in the comics and think it would be a PERFECT movie plot. They already introduced sci-fi now it should be magic time.
