Better-than-the-Manga Thread

Post by Ringo »

Post any anime (series or movies) that you think is better than its manga. Usually, the manga is better, but this type is not-so rare either, no? (:

Note: Manga adaptations of animes are excluded.

s-CRY-ed. The anime isn't too great, but the manga is total garbage.

Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

Haruhi.

I think nearly every answer in this thread will be one where the manga came afterwards and is an adaptation of the anime.

Edit: Should point out that if the manga was just an adaptation of the light novels that just happened to come out later...I don't care about that difference.

This might be a bit controversial (or not, dunno), but I prefer the Sailor Moon anime over the manga (didn't read most of the manga and read summaries of some parts).

First of all I liked the anime's format of storytelling, and the status quo allowed for exploration of the main characters, the villains and even minor characters. The slow pacing also made the end of every season seem really grand.
I'm also not sure I like all the decisions of the mangaka. I don't want to judge something I only read summaries of, but some concepts from the manga sounded a bit weird. Also based on the summaries of the Stars manga arc, I really prefer the anime version.

Guess I can say Yakitate!! Japan.

The manga is just... I can't begin to explain it. The anime stopped before getting to the part where it goes downhill so it's definitely better. Also, the breads look more delicious animated than in the manga :P

Anime manga-adaptation should be excluded, then. Thanks, kkslider for pointing this one out. (:

Soul Eater. Hmm... Fate/zero (is definitely better than its light-novel because duh).

this is my exact opinion of the Welcome to the NHK! manga.

I kinda agree from what I've seen so far, mainly because of the art (ZOMG COLORFUL :D) and animation. Pacing is as perfect as I've seen from shonen too.

Death Note. The series has such high production values. Top caliber voice talent. Fantastic score. Excellent, consistent art. Everything is top notch, and most importantly... they fixed a few issues from the manga. Namely, the second half of the manga is too long, which makes it far more convoluted than it ought be. In the anime, they reduced it by the equivalent of about what, six episodes, and it really, really shows. Also, they fixed some of the major issues with the ending by changing the angle slightly.

Interesting. I agree with half of what you said about the story being too complicated needlessly, but i liked the ending of the manga better cuz
Spoiler:
We think Ryuk is ready to kill for Light but he writes Light's name instead, which was the ultimate face-to-face betrayal. But in the anime, he dies a relatively peaceful death in the same fashion.

This. I prefer the anime ending. I'm a sucker for those kinds of dramatic scenes. :x

Minami-ke. 1st and Tadaima. The anime had add-ons which made the series more entertaining. :D

Cardcaptor Sakura, I think? I don't have problems with the manga, I mean, come on the art is jutst so gorgeous! It's just that the anime is way longer and had Sakura capture and change 52 cards instead of the manga's 19 Clow Cards.

I disagree even without seeing the anime, as it is by default an incomplete version without the whole final arc.
