The FMA thread!!!

Post by ccppfan »

I've always wondered why there's never been an FMA thread.

Okay so..I followed Brotherhood on animax for a while, and I'm planning on watching the first season soon, but I can only find the dub. Does anyone know where I can find it with english subs?

Al: So what's your strategy, Brother?
Ed: I told you, a fist in his face!

Hughes: Yo, Ed! Getting it on with a girl in your hospital room?
Ed: She's just my automail mechanic!
Hughes: Ah, so you've seduced your mechanic? Not bad, midget.

It's there, thanks a lot!

BTW, Animax started dubbing Brotherhood. So, has it ended in Japan yet?

No, it is still ongoing, it is around episode 40. Well, the manga will probably end soon too, so it is worth to wait.

Reached Chap 13 of the manga.

anyway, question to all FMA fans: Will I miss out on a lot of stuff if I skip the first season and get started on Brotherhood?

from the time I looked at a list of episodes for Brotherhood (I haven't seen it yet), it seemed to take what was like 15+ episodes of the first half of the first series (the manga stuff) and put them in like 8 or 9 episodes. And I do believe 2 episodes based off the manga are not even in Brotherhood but are in the first series.

I personally think you should watch the entire first FMA series. It's excellent even though the later stuff was basically the anime people creating their own arcs/ending.

Adult Swim still has anime?

I mean I'm glad Funi was able to find a loophole in CN's hatred of new anime but it's still kinda surprising.

I wouldn't exactly call the previous FMA adaptation as the first season. There are many differences.

Brotherhood is not a sequel. It's an entirely new take on the series based mostly on the manga (so they say - I haven't read it). Well, you're reading it so you'd probably know soon enough.

I had watched FMA back then and am currently watching Brotherhood. I really think the latter is way better in terms of handling the story with (less less less) drama and (non-irritating) running gags.

I don't regret watching FMA as it was good and popular. It would also give you topic material for comparison (e.g. between anime and manga; between the two adaptations etc.).

But if only I had become aware of FMA and FMA:Brotherhood at the same time (like now when they're both here), I would definitely appreciate it if someone would urge me to go for Brotherhood. I don't really see a point in watching the same anime series' concept TWICE. Although, I repeat, there are many many differences in story handling.

It really depends on how you'd look at the value of your time and the value of referencing the first adaptation.
I, myself, suspect that I love Brotherhood now partly due to the fact that I didn't dig the former all that much.
All I know is I'm hooked and kinda biased. Both have great music but Brotherhood has Conan (Takayama Minami) and Miyano Mamoru!!

BOTTOMLINE: You wouldn't miss a lot. IMO, it's alright to watch Brotherhood first or solely, if you value your time.
Sorry for the long post.  ;D It's a pretty late answer, too. xDD Damn, I should've checked the date before I started on my novel of a post. Anyway, I hope it gives insight to those who have a similar dilemma.  ;)
