Maid: "Since you are detective, are you Detective Mouri's apprentice?"
Heiji: "Huh? You think I was pathetic enough to be that idiot (Kogorou)...
Conan knocked Heiji's leg to remind him.
Heiji: "Ah, yes. Almost received Mouri-sensei's skills"

It looks like Heiji indirectly mocking Amuro is too pathetic to be Kogorou's apprentice. I sensed File 840, after case closed, the maid told Kogorou that as expected from Detective Mouri's apprentice. Kogorou laughed wildly on their way home, Heiji said there was absolute nobody going to be his apprentice. Kogorou told Heiji there is one person who is admired his genius deduction and directly requested to be his apprentice, Ran knew her father was talking about Amuro, after explained Amuro's personal detail, Heiji showed interest and decided to meet Amuro, Conan is in panic.

What confuses me is Conan's panic, I thought he would tell Heiji all about the recent development as usual

All these people getting impaled in 837...ouch. There's going to be lots of censoring to do in the anime.

Well yeah, I get that XD. I just wasn't sure if it was Heiji who called or if he just asked her to talk to him in private or what, since the dialogue meant nothing to me. If that is what happened, I'll just assume my understanding is at least mostly correct. And by that logic, I can take out the context and distracting details of that event and sum it up like this:

"Heiji just called up Kazuha, asked her to put on a maid outfit, and had her report to a dark abandoned warehouse."

Somehow, I like the way that sounds

This case has been too much for my deduction skills since the first chapter so I tried to keep myself away until the last chapter...but oh well... week here and there...
