I had been wondering if it was as it seemed, but I didn't know for sure until they went to the apartment.

Yeah, me too. It felt a bit predictable the latest one. BUT, still loving this series and will watch both Sherlock and Elementary from now on :)

you know something's up when you recognize the actor who's playing the character who would otherwise be inconsequential if he wasn't involved :P

but yeah, maybe it's because the show just doesn't encounter all that many suspects/characters throughout the show, but I feel like for the most part they do sort of telegraph who the bad guys are really early on in each episode. Actually deducing the specifics is a different story, though :P

That was a fantastic episode. Every episode has been top-notch so far, but what I really love is how complex the mysteries are in this. The scenarios involved with them and the way they are pieced together feel very mystery novel-like, even though they are able to accomplish it all in just an hour on TV.

Some quick specific notes too:
Spoiler:
The acting in this episode was particularly strong, which... I realize is a bit of a tautological statement given that we have an actor playing an actor in here and doing well at that acting. The actor guy was really great and gave us some real perspective on Sherlock's character. Maybe most of note was the way he described friendships for Holmes in such a succinct and poignant manner.

All around, great writing, did enjoy it. This show isn't ignoring the unique and interesting scenario they've created for this Holmes and this Watson and it is definitely paying off.

Spoiler:
I was thinkin he was muttering Moriarty's name in some sort of drug-addled nightmare, but Irene works too. :P

I was kinda disappointed at how long it took Sherlock to go from "why was the body in the cargo hold if the killer knew it'd be found during landing" to "the plane was sabotaged", though. I mean, considering how rare plane crashes are in the first place, combined with how coincidental it would be for it to happen during a flight where someone was killed+stored on-board, his first thought after knowing the guy was killed and then stashed on-board later should have been "I wouldn't be surprised if the plane crash was intentional too".

Spoiler:
She is dead, but she plays a strong role in Sherlock's love life. Why would they killed her off? I expect a strong character development in Sherlock
Kyuu got me into the series. Really interested in these episodes.

Spoiler:
I hope there will be flashbacks and whatnot on Irene. Or, as Holmes shows always do this, let her having faked her death and coming back to life.
Still can't believe they decided to kill off the woman even before she was introduced. :(

Spoiler:
I wonder if Irene was one of Holmes' drug buddies and her death was what made him decide to go sober...

But I agree it's somewhat disappointing that she's dead :(

Spoiler:
I do hope they didn't go for the 'super love story' side of things, I mean, it's Sherlock Holmes! Though I'm confident her character will be intelligent, an equal to Sherlock.
We'll have to know more to say if she's really dead, or not.
