I don't mind them too much, but out of the three, I like Mitsuhiko the most.

Anywho, I don't mind them around, but there are some cases where I do feel that their presence felt more forced than natural.  I can't think of any examples right off, though.  For example, the most recent case felt natural for them to be there since their mystery buffs anyway.  There are other cases where it's like, "Gosho was trying too hard to get those three in here."  Those types of cases is where I dislike their being around, but overall it's okay.

The only dynamic I do hate involving them, is when they're around Agasa and Ai because they seem to be just babysitters for them.

It would've been awkward for them not to have been in the last manga case because they'd been talking about going way before the BO was even involved.  They also already had their rings and reservations set.  What logical reason could Conan have given to keep them from coming?  They probably would've sneaked aboard and really would've been in danger.

They are very irritating. Only detective boys episodes worth watching are the Metropolitian Detective Love Stories.

The Old Blue Castle case proves you wrong.

DC was intended for kids, and i'm sure that most of us start liking DC when we're still young. to have kids supporting characters, it keep the original target audience to be entertained, while the bigger plot (BO) can accommodate everyone, especially us who have grown up.

don't forget that the real story is a teenage detective that become a kid, if the only difference is he solve the case from the background, it doesn't being true to the main story.

Feb914 is right, we have to remember that in Japan its main audience are actually children and even though alot of its readers are adults or teens. It still is meant for kids so the DB are important as they reach out to younger readers.

That said I don't mind the DB, but they are not my favorite characters.

Yep, you guys are right. I started watching Conan around 9 when I still used to live in Japan. DB cases were my favorite back then. I preferred DB or Kaito Kid cases over Heiji or plain Kogoro cases. I wouldn't say the same now that I've grown out of them (I'm even older than Shinichi now o_O), but without them, I wouldn't have picked up Conan at that age. Nowadays, I find them annoying from time to time, but they still have soft spot for me.

BTW, I'm new here. Nice to meet you guys :)

I wasn't a child when I first was exposed to DC about 11 years ago.  I was in my early 20s. :-P

I quite like it at the beginning where they would drag Conan around the place making him do "kids stuff" while he stares at them deadpan.  Making him the "peasant" was absolutely hilarious xD.

It's also pretty neat how over time they acknowledge Conan's genius and would follow him around.  The case with the "treasure map" was one of my favs (so cute!)

That dialogue was so cute and so funny in its irony (:

I don't know which one you are talking about (vol. 12 vol. 48, or other?) Regardless, I like most of their camping/adventure stories (: They are a breather from all the heavy murder stories in Conan.

To add to the list of adorable DB moments:
When Ayumi was trapped in a car, DB and Conan thought she was with a pair of murderers when the pair was actually practicing play. The outcome was quite hilarious. I also liked the DB and Kid story when they were trapped in a house full of karakuri. I have several more favorite moments in mind, but the list will be too long XD

In general, they are at their best when they are not involved in murder cases. When they get in the way of murder investigation, they can be a bit annoying :/ (not to mention, they shouldn't be involved in a murder investigation in the first place! They are first graders, after all)

i feel the same as mentioned on page [3].
it seems those DB are, psychologically, already not normal. In the earlier of Conan manga they still scared of dead bodies, now they can cope with it.

conan give bad influence to kids. lol

Well, since they seem to be interested in pursuing the job of the detective, getting used to dead bodies is pretty useful.

Though, as far as impassibility to death goes, no one trumps Shinichi. Still remember the case of the armored killer at the museum. When they were reviewing the security cam footage. Everyone flinched, EVERYONE, but Conan. It was borderline creepy.
