You know, for as lacking in drama as the DC English-speaking fanbase is, just try bringing up these two particular couples and watch your marshmallows roast.   I've heard that couple fights on Chinese DC forums get so bad that threads about it are prohibited.

But seriously. I think this thread does better than most I've seen on old DC forum threads.   I'd only look for those threads to laugh, btw; depending on the age of the posters, it's either "polite discussion" or "snarl, attack, name-call."

It's called love, people. It makes people think irrationally and do stupid, stupid things. Not a common experience among manga otaku, I take it?

I'm kind of a neutral party that likes both couples so I enjoy the random drama battles just to see what arguments people bring up to support their pairing preference.

I have not seen any serious fighting in either thread. It's mostly playful bickering or teasing.

I'd say we are a small community that's friendly with each other, i never encountered any proper 'drama' or flames in this forum - well except 1 person which i think is obviously just doing nothing but trolling (lucky he disappeared a long time ago though xD )

I've stalked the forum for a couple months, but I think if I ever get bored enough I'll go ahead and read through some old pages of the Ai-Con thread.

The 716-718 case bothered me a little bit. Not so much about what Ran did, but because it proves that she does not know Shinichi well enough.

You could say that it is a crime to change yourself just to make someone like you. (Welcome to high school j/k) That kind of dishonesty is just asking for trouble. I think whoever created that love fortune machine needs a boot to the head.

I do understand the fights in this thread and they are natural, not because each person is different, but because of another important thing, the fact that DC is being aired for so many years means, we have at least two generations of people, I am one of the really old ones  ,  actually Shinchi and Ran are not only my favourite couple in DC only but probably they are ONE of my favourite couples among movies, TV shows, sitcoms....... I am very picky,I like also Heji/Kazuha, Aoko/Kid.

It is for granted that all these couples are in love with each others, madly, and ready to die in order to protect the other. Also, what makes them special is they have pure love, not only Shinchi and Ran did not kiss or talked about their feelings openly, but the other two are the same.

to all Ai/Conan fans, I like them too, but as friends, I can never separate in my mind Conan from Shinchi who loves Ran since forever and now just because he found some one who shares knowledge with him or get along together, does not mean to fall in love with her. Ai too takes Ran as a sister, AI might do something similar in the future to save Ran. I do like Ai as a deep character, she also added sense of humour, specially when she yawns , feeling sorry for her to fall in love with some one who already gave his heart, soul and life to  another person, Ran.

I like all Shinchi/ Conan and Ran moments small or significant, but my favourites are like this:
in ep.10 the conversation in the ally when Ran followed Conan .
ep.42 the last part when Ran was standing out side Shinchi's house to the end.
ep. 193 in the restaurant when Conan asked her in Shinchi's voice to wait for him, even some Ai/conan fans has admitted that they have almost cried and was sad....(even if I die  )
238. Ran asking for a signature
268.  from the moment Ran was crying alone in her house till the end .
270. Conan's conversation with Heibara and Agasa.
288. Shinchi leaves a 'serial killer', he would not usually do that even if his own life was in danger, to take Ran
to hospital.
508. although Ran  was not there, but it was because of her, and the conversation was about her, when he said' you can not' then' and I am saying you can not
517 when the girls tried to confess.
521-524: Shinchi and Ran moments  and  , Heiji and Kazuha were part of it, Heibara was good at the end
too. 
554: the reason Conan broke his ankle and Heiji's guess

in addition to ova 2  and ova 8 (shinchi's version of sonoko's play reflects his wishes )

and the confessions in movies 4 and 8, no matter what the results were    

I do not know if you found a song already, but whenever I listen to this one, I think of Shinchi and Ran
when the stars go blue

Yeah, that is great, but... to me it makes these pairings also a bit boring. Basically the only thing that prevents these three couples to become "official boy-friend and girlfriend" is that they didn't confess their love to each other yet. Once one partner gathers enough courage and confesses - without getting interrupted by pranksters, thieves or murderers (or classmates, friends, parents  ) - well, then everything is done and the happy ending could start. To me it is missing the big conflict.

They are like vanilla ice-cream. Some people love it. I think it is a bit boring and not my favorite taste. Still, I have to admit I still like vanilla ice pretty much and it goes well with almost every ice-cream sundae.

Though her feelings are not made as clear as Ran's, you cannot dispute the evidence that has been piling up or dismiss it just because you feel it's admiration/fascination.
But I do agree that no one should feel sorry for Shiho because she's well aware that Conan loves Ran and respects that(and also thinks highly of Ran after "the rescue").

Sonoko and Makoto have more opened relationship in terms of feelings in comparison with the other couples, but I do love Makoto's character, I think he is the most mature . The only difficulty they have is just he is not around for KNOWN  reasons to Sonoko.

I want to be clearer why I like the 3 classic couples, I will try to be preserved in my language, because I am not sure about the age group of the people reading this (I know most of you are over 15s, but there might be some guests).

Basically, I soooo hate it in movies and what so ever comes on TV, when two people meet  and with in hours, they are in love and end up in bed in some cases.
I can call it a crush, but is NOT love.

I think Gosho by creating those couples, wants to give a moral message to all teens, you can have a great love without kissing in the worse situations or even more( I do not know about Japan and other countries) but where I am, in the UK, it is sooooooo terrible , teens have relationships based in to physical interest rather than love. what I mean to say in short, their PURE and HONEST relationship HARDLY exist these days 

I might sound off the topic, but in my opinion that what makes those three, special, favourite couples in my eyes, the presentation of something missing in real life.

if  we leave the other two and concentrate on Ran and Shinchi, because They are in a different situation, what makes them great is the suffering bit, you can NOT claim that you LOVE some one in good times, bad times ONLY prove HOW much you love some one. Of course, Ran gets the credit for this more than Shinchi, because Ran is waiting for something does not know the reasons for, even if we assume that she knows he is Conan, but still, she is in the dark, she could have listened to Sonoko and hooked up with some one else, she had no commitments with him, she is EVEN NOT sure about his feelings  .

as I have mentioned in my first post in this thread, we have at least two generations of DC fans and since I am one of the eldest, I will have different opinions and thank you for not describing my opinion as boring or old fashioned

I will take it as a compliment for what you said about my English, since it is not my mother language 

me too, happy to know a DC fan from the UK, all the teens I know from the family, never heard of DC
only Naruto  and Pokemon

ep.400  when Shinchi/Conan gave her his number, and said -roughly-:'it is dangerous to give her the number, but this kind of danger is not bad.: and the way he was looking at her behind the door was priceless, the animation at that point was brilliant, whenever I look at it, I think this is a LOVER's look
