You have two ropes, each of which takes exactly one hour to burn from one end to another. These ropes are uneven in thickness, though, as in one part might take longer to burn than another part, so if you burn one halfway, it won't be 30 minutes for sure. Using these ropes and a lighter, how would you accurately time 45 minutes?

(I feel like I'm overcomplicating things again; someone tell me if I am, orz)

Nice answer, but a question as the riddle suggest that one part burns faster then the other might then change things?

No, it wouldn't. Because either way, it'd take half an hour for the first rope to burn completely. Say, for example, the left half of the rope takes exactly 20 minutes to burn. The right half would then take 40 minutes to burn.
10 minutes - 2/4 of the left half would be burnt; 1/4 from the right would be burnt.
20 minutes - All of the left half would be burnt, 2/4 from the right would be burnt.
30 minutes - The 20 minutes left from the right half would be burnt.

Long story short, it would not change anything. Kogorou, you can go ahead and post one. (:
