1. I can follow directions if given the ingredients, but that's hardly "cooking ability".

I gave myself a three because I can cook things with recipes and a few things without, but no matter what (even if it isn't what I meant to cook) it'll always taste good :V

I have yet to figure out why :X

3. Anything with recipe is fine, and there are a few things (some of them quite complicated) I can do without them.
Also, does anyone else besides me try to perfect even things like deep-frozen pizza?
(Yes, the recipe claims 8-10 min at 200°C, but 15-17 min at 180°C is much better :x)

I can do just fine without a recipe as long as I've cooked it before (unless it's something like a made-from-scratch cake--I haven't made one in years, so I wouldn't remember the right proportions for the ingredients ^^;) or I can tell it's done just by looking at it (browning meats for the most part). I usually have no problems making a dish per a recipe unless I do some sort of crazy, illogical substitution (i.e. substituting 1 tbsp of a stick of butter with 1 tbsp of spray-on butter ) since I don't have the right ingredients on hand.

...though, considering how often I do the cooking in the first place, that makes me rather unskillful, I suppose. A 2, perhaps?

I study chemistry after all, so I should be used to "following instructions without getting stuff burnt"...
However, my 'cooking' is better described as 'throw stuff you find in the fridge into a pan and hope'. Surprisingly enough, it always turned out edible so far. Edible for me, that is ;P

Edit: Spray-on butter? Such a thing exists? o_O
