Elementary (CBS)

Post by MaitreDétective »

As some of you know, there's going to be a new Sherlock Holmes series. However there are a few changes: he's American and "Watson" is a woman!
So I created this thread for this upcoming series and for that we don't discuss it on the other Sherlock series thread ;D

Apparently it comes from a failed pitch for an American remake of Sherlock, so not sure what to make of that.

I'm not too tremendously fussed about Watson being a woman... I've read some really good fanfic based on that (though is it a good recommendation that your show sounds like a good fanfic?) I'm more upset by what I've heard that Watson's background is now. Instead of an invalided war hero, apparently now she's a surgeon who lost her license for making a mistake on the operating table and killing a patient. THIS NERFS WATSON'S AWESOME. WATSON NEEDS TO BE AWESOME.

Despite the fact that I think we should just let Sherlock Holmes die already and not make 50 shows per year about him, Lucy Liu is in this, it's destined for greatness

I know people have been saying this, but I haven't seen anything that suggested it was true. Sherlock wasn't produced until 2009, but all the way back in 2000, "Elementary" was pitched to fellow American network ABC with a modern Sherlock Holmes in San Francisco (instead of New York). The show was not picked up but was revived at CBS and moved to New York.

You can read more about the original "Elementary" here.

I'd almost say I think Lucy Liu being in something takes the score down a bit for me.

I might wake up early and go running. I also might wake up and win the lottery. The odds are about the same.

I remember bad mouthing Matt Smith as the Doctor, and then I loved him, so I'll give the TV show a shot and then we'll see.

they should rip off of what Monster did and have her lose her license for not leaving a patient to die when ordered by the corrupt head of the hospital to treat a politician instead, who any doctor should have been able to treat

then Watson could have her license revoked for being too awesome.

That would work. That would be badass. It would give me some faith that the writers are not gonna completely and utterly fail at this, which is what Fem!Watson's current backstory implies.

Doesn't look terrible, but I still disapprove of the background story for Joan.

Also, at the bottom of the description on YouTube where it said "Watch this fall, only on CBS!" I misread it as "Watch this fail..."

I love what Johnny Lee Miller is doing with the character there. He's playing him in a completely different way from Benedict Cumberbatch--something of a mix between his own interpretation and those little qualities that don't quite get noticed in the original character. I like this really rough approach to the character--from what is shown there, it's looking like it has potential to be a fairly fresh procedural with a new sort of Holmes.

I'm curious to see how it turns out in the fall, and of course can't wait for Sherlock Season 3 when it goes down. More Holmes for all!
