Which interview is that?
Source?
I remember the contrary, that during an interview the speaker asked the question if they were cousins and Gosho ignored the question (he didn't want to answer)

But which interview was it, exactly? I couldn't find the link to the interview that actually mentioned this detail... ^^;

Yes, less than 20 years to go till DC finishes!
Hahahaha! I know what you're saying! I hope it doesn't take 20 years to end either, but he says he wants to retire when he's Agasa's age, which is...52 years old? He's alreadd in his mid-forties...T^T

I can't either. The interview in question doesn't make any mention, so I'm confused where the actual source came from.

Justwantanaccount has been pretty reliable, but you should probably ask justwantanaccount for details because that part may have been a live interview only portion and not transcribed.

It definitely isn't a coincidence.

...in that it wasn't a coincidence that Gosho really wanted to reuse that combination of physical characteristics for a protagonist again. There won't be a direct genetic link between them or anything like that, so don't read too much into it. One of their parents may be related to another somehow, somewhere along the line, but I don't see what purpose forming that connection would serve other than stretching plausibility.

yeah that'd be like if Shiratori's childhood love interest happened to be the first recurring female character he meets after that information is revealed or if Heiji and Shinichi solved a case at the same time and yet never met when they were in middle school.

wait

well... the amount of murders that have happened in DC isn't even average of murders happening in Japan yet...I mean average per year in the last 20 years...
though I'm not sure I calculated right but who cares?DC is fiction...

No... it's certainly interesting to me if Shinichi and Kaito turn out to be blood-related.

I don't really expect that they will be, though. It's like expecting Higurashi Kagome and Mamiya Sakura to be related.

it is not uncommon for characters made by same artist will have same distinct look. Those faces are the artist's signature and style. so the characters are not necessarily need to be blood related because they look similar. Orelse, Aoko and Ran and Kogoro and Nakamori (less distinct similarities) are also related?

And think of the similarities between Sato and Kobayashi-sensei! If shinichi and kaito were blood-related, that would mean they're twins? :o (and half of the DC characters would be relatives too!) JK

It's true that basing the relation theory on the looks alone is stupid,
but we are basing the theories that they are related to the interview with Gosho.
(Don't remember what was said in it so I'm leaving it up to others to say)

basically in the interview he didn't deny them being relatives when asked but he said that their similar looks isn't coincidence. He could have said they are not related and that'd have been it but he chose to say what he said (don't remember what exactly)
