Many people don't like Ran, first of all, because they're AiCon fans and they think she's in the way, which is NOT very common around her since everybody here is more mature than that.

Second, they don't like her because they think she cries too often, which is arguable.

Third, look at her! The chickidy has NO flaws! XD She's a Mary-Sue in a way! Heiji once said SOMETHING about people and perfection... I forget what he said but the summary of it was "Look, people don't like people who seem to be perfect and they won't stop snooping until they find a flaw." People have been snooping and the only possible thing is the crying, which is arguable so it doesn't count, and they can't seem to find anything else... and people don't like Mary-Sues. XD

Then forth some people find her personality a little boring and prefer another kind. She's kind of the "Perfect chick who has no flaws and has a kind heart and is faithful and everything you want" which is a common theme for a main female role (kind of ties into the Mary-Sue thing). So they get bored of it. If DC hadn't lasted this long, I bet you half those votes would be GONE. XD

I guess most people who voted Ran don't hate her,they only dislike her... Ran is the main female character,so people expect more of her...
For me she's a little boring,and I've seen many female characters like her in other mangas...I don't feel anthing when I see her,there's nothing special...anyway,IHKF already said what I thought.XDDD

In your average Shônen, having a main female character who actually does things sometimes (albeit rarelier these days) and who isn't only there for fanservice purposes is actually quite a performance.

I think that's one of the reasons that Ran was better at the beginning. I once had a conversation with a friend that went along the lines of:
"Why wouldn't Conan just tell Ran about what's happening? With her karate, she'd be a valuable asset in a bad situation..."
"No kidding. Conan wouldn't be the only one with the spotlight then either."

Though of course, being a Shonen series, it's a given the main guy will often be the hero but...I would've liked to see Ran in a bit more action :/

Off the top of my head, Sakura from Shippuden is the only one who meets that criteria

It's cultural. Japan is still a very patriarchal society, despite some improvements in the past decades. A woman is supposed to valorize her (future) husband, not outshine him. Remember that episode about Ran having a body good for reproduction ? That sort of sums it up.

My least favorite Character is Eisuke but I officially hate every character who knows Conan's identity but doesn't tell Ran
(except Heiji,he has many times said it would be better to tell her )

but my love for every DC character overrides my hate so ...lets forget about that...
