Happened to me too, haha.

I don't watch a whole bunch of anime/ not a huge anime fan, but I'd definitely recommend Death Note.  If you enjoy mysteries and deductions, it will be a perfect fit.  Death Note is my favorite anime, and the good part about the series is that it's short and sweet...no fillers or BS anime originals.

Hmm, I'm conflicted by two sides here. One side wants me to just keep on watching because I enjoy the show a lot (yes, even sometimes the anime original stuff), but I also don't want to go too fast that it'll be over before I realize it. I would not be surprised if I'm caught up by the time the next semester arrives (Fabruary 1, 2010). I still have plenty more  to go, but I do have many others series I want to take a gander at, plus a good number of mystery novels I haven't read yet.

One suggestion I have is to currently just watch one episode a day (at most) until you get to...episode 200, take a short break (like a month or so), and then continue watching one episode a day after that break.

Also, if you are bored while doing that, I have awesome opinions on anime so I could suggest-*killed*

I'm at 187. Besides, finals are soon, so my watching will have to stop for a while. Also, I have my own list of stuff I want to see, so that should cover me for the next three years (based on my viewing rate).

I probably have a similar amount of anime to watch. I only have 9 series on the Plan to Watch part of my list and only 1 of them is more than 26 episodes (most are much shorter than 26) but I am being very patient with the long running shonen anime I watch and plan to basically watch one episode from any anime per day after I finish Excel Saga and Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I hope I have enough of a life at that point so that it does cover me for that amount of time.

Anyway, that works too. Especially since a lot of the anime you plan to watch are awesome.

You watched everything in two weeks?

Roounding down to 400, and ignoring movies and such, that's almost 30 episodes a day!

That's...probably not possible, honestly.

I watched 100 episodes in about two weeks last summer and thought I was over-doing it. Even got a little sick of the stuff.

I can attest that it is in fact possible. I was home alone for two weeks one time during the summer and watched all episodes 96-536ish, watching a section each day (sections being the parts between thick black lines on http://www.dctp.ws/DC_Subbed_List.pdf ). So yeah, it was roughly 30 episodes a day, was actually more like 12 days, each episode is around 20 minutes after skipping intro and ending sequences (after watching them the first time), it was 10 hours of watching DC a day, yeah.

I didn't watch the movies through that period though, I'd done that earlier in the summer.

I've read and re-read and watched and re-watched pretty much all of Conan. I got into reading fanfics (look up "When Pandora's Box is Opened" on Fanfiction.net, it's REALLY awesome, and quite long. Especially when you add in the sidestory "The First Woman in the World"). We also have a DC roleplay running Thrusday and Sunday nights in IRC, check out the logs here: viewtopic.php?t=2229.45

As for other detective anime/manga series: I would reccomend Detective School Q (Tantei Gakuan Q) and Kindaichi Case Files (Kinaichi Shonen no Jikenboku) for certain. Oh, and read all of Magic Kaitou if you can...gives more backstory on KID.
I have finally started to actually publish my story! For the moment, expect a new chapter each month.

The Case of the Midnight Channel
"When a strange letter summons the Mouri family to Inaba, Ran is expecting a case. She's not expecting it to involve the TV, though.
If Naoto investigated everyone who came to visit Inaba, she'd have little time for real cases. When Yukiko reports that the Midnight Channel is back, however, she starts to wonder if the visitors are connected. Especially when the image clears, unveiling yet another mystery."

Short version: I'm taking various DC/MK characters to Inaba (where Persona 4 takes place) and dropping them through the TV to face their Shadows!

Just saying that I second When Pandora's Box is Opened.  It's an awesome story and I was quite addicted to it while chapters were still being published.  I'd also recommend Windfall by Ysabet.

Yeah, it took me over 4 months to watch everything starting last February.  Watched about 4-5 episodes every day, although there were days I passed due not feeling like watching that day.

It does feel boring after watching everything.  Although it did lead me to discover the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Neon Genesis Evangelion and the japan-only(at the moment, at least) Gundam series.

Let's see. I'm coming up on 16 months since I began watching and am at 187/544 (at the moment) episodes. At this rate, going only by episodes, I'll reach the current episode count in...approximately 30 months. So that means end of August 2012. XD

these two anime should never be in the same sentence like that unless there's tons of > in between them

Does that mean that the following true statement is incorrect?

For Umandsf, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya = Neon Genesis Evangelion.

pretty much

emowhineness should stay out of anime, if not everything. And when Haruhi does philosophy it isn't just for the sake of confusing people and seeming interesting to avoid having an actual good story.  :-*
