The cards on the pedestals
I'd like to note that the height of the cards on each pedestal corresponds is directly proportional to the lower head height of the DB guarding them. Genta's black column had its card the highest, Mitsuhiko's green column card was midway up, and Ai and Ayumi who are the shortest have their cards lowest on their white and red pedestal respectively. The kids must have tagged the cards to their columns themselves which likely involved the hoods of their manipulated jackets. Perhaps the rain and the wind was to get the DB to bring their hoods up so the cards stuck to the hoods would then get stuck to the columns somehow because of the way the DB were positioned to guard them. Basically that likely means Kid didn't have to visit any of the columns to perform the heist.

Kid clearly played around with the phone conversations to manipulate Jirokichi and co. into getting the jackets. The reporter person got a call from the "director" telling her that Jirokichi was getting matching jackets for the kids. "The reporter" over the phone gave Jirokichi the suggestion of which merchant to use, which the reporter in person seems to know nothing about.

Why Conan was knocked out
I think I figured out what happened to poor Conan... he was collateral damage because someone, I am guessing Kid, used electricity for something, likely the trick, and Conan was standing or touching a metal surface (Jirokichi put metal in the walls and even on the floor) which Conan touched at the wrong time perhaps because he was standing on a rotten place, and thus was knocked out by traveling current. Conan's shoes probably conduct electricity because of their electrical stimulation super kick feature. Conan's gadgets backfired on him this time...

Kid's identity
As for who Kid is, I am still siding with Nakamori. Note that signs were inadvertently stuck to the columns by the DB, so Kid probably didn't have to do any fiddling with columns, so the fluorescent paint is a red herring. Only two people handled all four keys and thus could have applied the paint to the keys which would then get in the keyholes, Nakamori and Jirokichi. I would like to point out that Nakamori handed the keys back to Jirokichi strangely by dropping them into Jirokichi's outstretched hand, likely to avoid getting fluorescent pain on himself. Also as I said in earlier posts, he manipulated everyone and he is out of character. It's gotta be him although I need to come up with evidence to rule out Jirokichi completely.
Rehashing an older post
1) Nakamori jumps to conclusions right away and states first thing for everyone to pursue Kid which suggests to me that he wants to get out of the room. He asks Jirokichi to open the doors later again.
2) Nakamori also seems to know Conan was attacked by Kid before Haibara found the stun gun. For all Nakamori would know, Conan tripped in the darkness. Haibara hadn't produced the stun gun yet. Also if it was Nakamori, he should be ranting about that " ;&^%$# injuring children and how he is going to lock Kid the @#%& up..."
3) When Jirokichi tells Nakamori to pinch everyone's faces, Nakamori changes the subject to how Kid made off with the horn. Even Jirokichi is surprised by the subject change. Nakamori normally has to be held back from ripping everyone's noses off when he hears that Kid is nearby.
4) Nakamori uncovers the fluorescent paint which is a red herring.
5) Nakamori starts to object to the DB searching everyone including him.
6) Nakamori was the one who encouraged the DB to guard the columns when the sound goes out. The DB were the ones who put the notices on the columns so this is suspicious.
7) Nakamori also does a 1,2,3 count which Kid really really likes to do. Ok, so this isn't solid evidence, but is perhaps suggestive...
8 ) Nakamori was closest to the pillar when the lights came back on.
9) He can hear the high pitched sound of the pillars being turned off. That sound is probably one that only young people can hear because older people lose the ability to hear high pitched sounds as they age.

Theory as to where the jewel is hidden...
Could it be inside the Kirin statue which is hollow? The Japanese 5th element is void so it makes sense, as does the hollow column. It could be on Kid still because I don't know how well the children searched the disguised person.

Theory about the opening mechanism
As for the opening mechanism, I'm looking into lightning. Maybe the order of the colors is black, white, blue/green, then red (swapping white and blue/green doesn't effect the shape much) so it draws a little lightning bolt if you play "connect the dots". I hope that helps everyone.

I can't help but wonder if Gosho read a lot of our minds (or posts). lol  I love the direction that these chapters are going.  Conan is out and Ai has the starring role.  It's been too long!  I thank you Gosho-sama for putting Ai in the detective role as opposed to the babysitting of the DBs while Conan does all the work!!
