Re: Today's Bad Stories !
I was hearing the news just a while ago and heard about men whose house exploded because of a truck with gas. The man is still alive and I was glad for it, when I say it my mom said: but who's gonna pay the house? ... I know it's hard, heck I know it perfectly! But, why, WHY MONEY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A LIFE!? If I were in his position I would be glad to be still alive and breathing!! Because that means that I still have a chance to change things and do everything better!! Who cares money?! It can rule the worl but it can't rule over me!! I hate momey... I hate people who loves money more than anything...

You basically summarized my complaints about my parents trying to steer me away from student loans for college. Not only do I not care about money that much, but does it matter how much I'm paying in student loans when I'm going to be a computer programmer anyhow? >_>KaitoGirl wrote: I was hearing the news just a while ago and heard about men whose house exploded because of a truck with gas. while programming can be a pretty decent paying job, that doesn't mean that student loans are a non-issue. At the rate I'm accruing savings, with a normally-paying programming job and relatively low living expenses, if I had to take student loans in college, it would take me 7 years to pay off my college expenses, without interest. I'm not sure what the rates on student loans are, but if you have any ways to avoid / minimize student loans you should probably look into them.aly_angelflight wrote:You basically summarized my complaints about my parents trying to steer me away from student loans for college. Today's bad story: I left my cell phone at work so now I either have to set a computer alarm or use my old BEEP BEEP BEEP alarm clock. D:

I wouldn't even have to worry about loans if my dad wasn't keeping my savings bonds hostage "just in case" his business goes under. -_-Akonyl wrote:while programming can be a pretty decent paying job, that doesn't mean that student loans are a non-issue. Re: Today's Bad Stories !
well that sucks tremendously :V
in that case I'd just try to get whatever scholarships you can. Though, if you're going into college this fall that would be difficult, but if you weren't going till '12 I know that there's things like the scholarship from the Society of Women Engineers that you could get, but their deadlines for this year have already passed.

Also talk to whatever college/colleges you plan on attending and see what kind of scholarships they offer. There are plenty of them available if you know where to look. But:

So apparently I can't reclaim jobseeker's allowance if I stopped claiming in the last calender month. I only stopped claiming because I decided to be honest and sign out while i'm out of the country, and this is how they repay me? Still can't find a damn job anywhere either.

...
My brother had a fist fight today during school... at first I didn't move, but after react a bit I felt the rage... I wanted to punch until make him bleed (not my brother, the other guy, of course). He's always getting in troubles and I always have to help him. He's not helping me at all and their classmates are a bunch of stupids that think that they can get with everything!
Oh! There was also a quake last night.

Nope, after I left the bathroom (because I was heading to the bathroom when I saw it) they were more calm and not fighting on the floor.

Seems like you did the right thing by not punching the guy. You could have caused the situation to become a lot worse had you resorted to violence. So you really should give yourself a pat on the back for handling things as well as you did.KaitoGirl wrote: Nope, after I left the bathroom (because I was heading to the bathroom when I saw it) they were more calm and not fighting on the floor.

Re: Today's Bad Stories !
This is from yesterday but if I'd typed it out then, I probably would have included some expletives or something.
My exam was consisting of two case presentations, given to us one hour beforehand to prepare and based on stuff we'd learned for the last two weeks (interpreting scans and coming up with a diagnosis and management plan). Sounds simple, no? Until I got some random picture of something I had never seen before, nor had the other three classmates that were taking the exam with me. The other one was a blowout fracture, which we'd learnt about but is not something optoms commonly see, either, since if it's that bad, they tend to go to the emergency room, or a doctor. NOT an optom.
Anyway, I spend half an hour just looking through the textbook, which is like our disease bible and can't find what the hell the first case was, since nothing fit completely. I decided to have two differential diagnoses that sort of fit, one slightly more likely than the other. But no, I got interrupted during my presentation, before I could say my second differential (which I was leaning towards being the case). 1) How rude of the examiner to interrupt a presentation to begin with. 2) Yes, I know why the first differential didn't fit. You don't have to ask questions to get me to say it. I would have if you DIDN'T INTERRUPT ME!!! Oh and by the way, my second differential was right
But since I didn't get to say anything about it, thanks to him asking stuff that I would have said anyway if he'd just let me, I probably failed that case.
And just as a side rant. What on earth does a pituitary tumour have to do with a blowout fracture? Were you just feeling mean and decided to throw random trivia questions at me to trip me up further? Do you get some sadistic pleasure at seeing students fumble? Because I don't see the connection between a tumour and a trauma case.
Oh and you know what the best part is? If I had gotten any of the other 6 cases that were on the table that day, I'd have aced the test. Because they were common conditions and what all of us had prepared for. Not random stuff that we'd probably never ever see anyway
Seriously, give me an infection, glaucoma, retinal tears or uveitis. Seriously.
