And some of Ran's karate moves are really beautiful, for example when she rescued Suzuki from the running-down-to-cliff car. And I like her heel drops ...
her breaking the car's windshield is just EPIC...I gotta try it sometime...;D

Ran is strong both mentally and physically, however that is not the end of it.

Ran has her problem of fear of the supernatural. If there is something that she can't explain she freezes up. She may eventually overcome it, but if it wasn't a story, she'd likely be dead. The first few seconds are most important, and Ran has a habit of freezing and screaming if she can't explain it.

As for her physical strength it is a bit over done, but that might have been for a comedic element.

ran's physical is indeed high... but the whole concrete smashing/ desk destroying part is mostly likely for comical relief only.... kinda like in OnePiece where Nami gives Ruffy bruise and bumps all over his face although he normally can't get them cos of his gomugomunomi - 100% comcial relief

and i doubt she can overcome her anxiety of the supernatural... i mean... how many cases was she involved where it was just some trick and she still doesn't get it... and the whole screaming while developing a body isn't kinda the typical reaction if it is your 100th corpse you find... it's so that everyone gets to know their is one... but still
Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean nobody is following you!

Ran has physical and emotional strength...but her fear of the supernatural causes both of those strengths to break down

Problem is that she DOES eventually over come it in many cases. Granted it is when it is threatening someone she cares about, or after a certain amount of time has passed, and she regains her composure.
