I think trying to commit suicide entails having at least some mental damage.

Well, so did the FBI by attempting to apprehend a criminal without the assistance of the police or even telling them they're there, then doing it again, and now that the cops know of them they say their on vacations when it seems more like waiting for stuff to happen.

True... but then there are people in Japan who commit suicide because they didn't pass the entrance exam to a University. A mentally killed individual would've just stayed there instead of escaping IMO.

She was trying to save herself, she even said the gas chamber would be nicer but she wanted to live so she braved the drug.

The original intent of APTX is unknown. Killing people, leaving no trace is just a useful side effect of APTX, which Ai detests. She made this drug for other purpose, it's the BO that take advantage of this drug to turn it to a lethal poison. Her crime is working with BO (even being forced), not manslaughter. It's like accusing you of because someone use your knife to kill people.

If that's her only crime, being associated with the organization, it still would count. The organization operates assassinations - and she's part of it. It'd be grimmer outlook for her since she's an accepted member (having received the codename Sherry) and the drug used, regardless of its real purpose, was used to kill.

Her knowing how the organization operates, she's well aware of how they systematically kill off people and their associates. Sadly, she was in too deep when she acted.

I think BO forced her to work for them using her sister's life as a threat.
When her sister died, she refuses to work anymore even if she would die because of that.
If she doesn't have a sister, maybe she already killed herself long time ago.
Before justice ask her crime, she has the right to ask justice first, where justice have been all this time when BO forced her worked for them and killed her sister.

You know, the crimes she was forced to commit may stay a secret forever if she decides to stay in a child's form with her new identity. I don't think Conan is gonna tell the police about her.

However,I think that the sense of justice of Conan is too strong for him to let anyone commit a crime that is close to him go...
Just like at one moment when Conan said if Agasa commit a crime,and he will treat him as any other criminal - pay for its crimes.

Well, justice should take care of the BO at the end as well. The members should be judged for their crimes, and that includes Haibara.
