why does everyone picture smell so literally... i always had and still have the impression that smell is just a phrase to describe it.... and more importantly, you can't put smell on/off like Akai and okiya... to me it's more likely it has something to do with way they observe their surroundings with keen, cold and evil (prey hunting) eyes (of a killer)... that would explain why higher ups give Ai a stronger feeling than the others...

yeah... i kinda thought most of you weren't too serious about it but nobody seemed to mentioned otherwise so i said it that way.... maybe it's a bit like the Kebunshoku Haki in OP or the ability to sense their bad Ki like in DB(Z)
and vermouth gave Ai such a strong feeling her nerves were numb or was i interpreting to much there... i mean she was practically a shivering wreck, and to me it seemed as if Ai already had a bad premonition about araide-sensei, why else would she skip health exams if she isn't ill at all?

Paranoia.  But in all seriousness, I think that it's the intention.  Because didn't she say that Akemi had the scent right before doing the robbery?
And as for the fishing thing, wasn't Akemi killed by the docks?
