Hypothetical live action cast
Now, if we had an American DC/CC movie, who would you cast as who? Now, if it were in America, they'd probably go with the dub names to get away with casting white actors. Now, race doesn't matter in this thread.

Re: Hypothetical live action cast
someone here had an awesome fake poster for a DC movie and I actually agreed with most of the roles for it
I would also like to point out that live action movies based off of anime are stupid (except 20th Century Boys).

I stay away from all anime/video game adapted films usually since they are bad but I would be front row to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Vodka.AICHAN wrote:LOOOOOOOOOOLDarkWolfYoukai wrote:Possibly this one?ranger wrote:I'd like to see that posterkkslider5552000 wrote: someone here had an awesome fake poster for a DC movie and I actually agreed with most of the roles for it

So to summerize, expect Hollywood to ruin your favorite animes and mangas...Death Note has been optioned for a live-action Hollywood remake. A 2007 article in The Star (Malaysia) states that more than ten film companies in the United States expressed interest in creating a remake.[26] Vertigo Entertainment is currently set to develop an American Death Note remake.[27] In April 2009, it was announced that WB had acquired the rights to make a live-action version of the manga, and had hired Charley and Vlas Parlapanides to adapt the script. The new film will be based upon the original manga series rather than the existing live-action films.[28] Sources at Vertigo are confirming that the final draft of the script has been greenlit and casting is about to begin.
It's only a matter of time before they ruin another one, but which will be next? Sailor Moon? Conan? Naruto or Bleach? (never watched Naruto nor Bleach but as it seems, it is popular...)
Just raising options and I don't know the true popularity...

Re: Hypothetical live action cast
I'm going to be the optimistic one and say that Death Note has the best chance out of most anime I've watched. Why?
1. The only CGI they have to do is Ryuk and the other Shinigami.
2. As long as all the essential characters are there and none of the rules about the Death Note are changed, small deviations from the plot probably won't hurt as much.
However, casting (Zac) and corny dialogue will probably ruin it even if those two points are done well.
As for a live action DC cast, I like how the poster looks, but I probably wouldn't agree with the actors once they were in an actual trailer. I know next to nothing about celebrities, but Zac Efron in any anime adaption is probably wrong. It would probably be a bad idea for DC to have an American live action for one important reason that bothered me in the Japanese live action. Kicking a soccer ball to stop someone or denting a wall or street lamp with karate may be awesome in anime, but it's quite dorky looking in live action.

Okay, we can't assume that every single one of them is gonna be bad. Remember comic book movies? The 90s was just not their decade. But then after X-Men, they became good. And I have a good feeling about Astro Boy.Kor wrote:from wikipedia:bluekaitou1412 wrote: WTH? A DeathNote Hollywood version?

comic books? What's that? no just kidding, just that I've never read any comic book in my entire life (unless you consider manga as a comic book)Animeking1108 wrote:Okay, we can't assume that every single one of them is gonna be bad. But I base my assumptions on Dragon Ball Evolution, which is maybe the best example for a live action gone horribly wrong.
I agree, the comic books based movies weren't that good (only ones I watched were several batman movies and a superman movie) but the reason why X-men did so well is also because the special effects were much more advanced. It had good plot but then again, it also depends on the director, producer and script writer. X-men was something they could be very familiar with because it came from the US culture, but not everyone is familiar with manga/anime and truly understand the concept. For example again, DBE, they turned Goku into a typical high school superhero teenager, very much like Spiderman, which ruined the whole concept of the optimistic and loves to eat Goku. I saw that as an attempt to make it like something that the USA culture is familiar with (again, typical spiderman or superman thingy) but truly there was no need, because Dragon Ball had one of the biggest fanbases in like everywhere in the world.
If someone in the US decides to buy live action movie rights of DC then it can really be bad because those who will make the movie may not understand this at all. Heck, you and me may know better than the script writer.
You need a lot of talented actors in order to pull something like Conan. You can't take those child actors, who are merely children of famous actors or people with connections, to play Conan and Haibara. They have to have talent and be good at acting so Conan's actor can act like a high school detective and Haibara's actress can be cryptic and awsome as she suppose to be.
btw, about your list there is something I found a bit funny (Not that I have any problem with the list but I have a deep hatred towards the Cyrus family even though I've never seen any of them on TV so it's just a weird hatred without any reason). But with the list you've created, Shiho will have british accent while Haibara will have american accent - an odd side effect of the drug?

Couldn't agree more! But it's not the worst for me... I disliked Detective Academy Q Live Action more... DBZ Live Action maybe 2nd then Prince of Tennis Live is 3rd...Kor wrote: But I base my assumptions on Dragon Ball Evolution, which is maybe the best example for a live action gone horribly wrong.

Re: Hypothetical live action cast
while I'll agree that that sets a pretty worrying precedent when it comes to hollywood anime movies, I think it's worth noting what the draws of each anime is.Kor wrote: But I base my assumptions on Dragon Ball Evolution, which is maybe the best example for a live action gone horribly wrong.
DBZ: KI LASERS AND FIGHTING PEWPEWPEW
Death Note: Battles of wits and suspense and the story in general. Also, extreme chip eating.
People really don't get into DBZ for the story, they get into it for the action. So, hollywood thought (wrongly) that if they destroyed the story and just kept the lasers, everyone would like it. But they didn't.
With death note, if they have any reason at all, they'll realize that the draw of it is the story itself, and not mess with the story. Now, if it's as bad as DBZ was, they may figure that nobody cares about how characters look, and end up making Light a goth, and Ryuk into some fluffy comedic relief animal. But at least imo, if they leave the story alone and mess up everything, I doubt it could come up half as bad as DB:E.
