Plus, if it wasn't for these lapses in intellect we wouldn't have some of our best plot developments
He's a teenager, and we know when he panics, then he'll do stupid/rash things. Especially when Ran is involved.
He's also young and not really the passive or calm type anyway. He likes to show off.
This behaviour makes him look stupid because he's seen as a genius anyway. So any mistake he'd do would make him look stupid. But otherwise there would be no plot-development at all if he wouldn't do any mistakes at all :V I also prefer it if he does some rash/stupid things
He also doesn't see Sera as a threat. So he's not cautious around her too.
