Okay, that does make a lot more sense. I guess it could be the light from a streetlight?Akonyl wrote:generally, when the whole "light flash denotes the sniper's position" thing happens, it's not that they're shining the laser in the person's eyes, it's that the sun gets reflected in the scope into the person's eyes. This isn't exactly a "stupid" thing, because the angle the scope would have to be at to shine the sun into someone's eyes would be hard to determine exactly and could easily happen by accident.Olive wrote: I don't think it's a sniper, because they'd have to be stupid enough to shine the laser scope right in Sera's eyes for her to notice.
When I saw it, I thought it was somehow a signal directed at Sera.
But if it is a sniper, it seems like Sera would have to be aware of exactly who it was. Otherwise she wouldn't be all "Okay, problem solved!"

Regarding the coding system, this is an explanation I'm satisfied with (I suppose someone mentioned something similar in a previous post):
Yuchi - Bakery - kitsuneiro - golden brown - fox color
(In bakery and cooking terms, the color as in to cook/bake/roast until "golden brown" is kitsuneiro, or fox color)
Mitsui - Stonemasonry - nezumiiro - gray - rat color
(Nezumi means rats and nezumiiro is used to describe a darkish gray color. Although rats are usually brown, nezumiiro means gray)
Nihei - Seal maker - ivory - elephant
(Seals can be made of wood, plastic, or ivory)
And the uguisu color means the greenish camouflage color. It is congruent to the fact that Conan didn't connect the dots until this final keyword is mentioned.

In any case, it seems obvious that Desperate Revival .2 is barreling down on us REALLY fast. Sera obviously knows, Ran's suspicious, aw heck, AYUMI is suspicious. "Conan is using someone else's voice again" really just lays the cards on the table.

Well, going by the Zodiac years....wdflu wrote: The info from this chapter:
Elephant - Undried hair, probably from bathing
Fox - Made up excuse to come again
Rat - Low educated
Tanami (fat lady with hat) 41y - unmarried, working at family business(stonemasonry) - rushing back from victims room(probably to WC)
Shinobu (front teeth) 36y - Divorced, working at bakery for 20 years - loves onsen
Sumika (glasses) 39y - Married to a seal craftsman, housewife - extremely polite, cleanly.
Sumika
2011 - 39 = 1972
1972 is the year of the rat.
(Coincidence? Hmm.
Outside appearance suggests she's the "fox", because she's wearing glasses.
Oriental Outpost.com descriptions:
"People born under the sign of the Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They are hardworking and consequently often financially wealthy. And are likely to be perfectionists. Rats are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. The Mouse is very social and has many friends who he supports in generous ways. The family is important; a Mouse is loyal to his family and will fight for it if needed. They are most compatible with people born in the years of the Dragon, Monkey, and Bull."
That leaves "elephant" and "fox".
Elephant personality trait profile: http://www.animalinyou.com/profile.php?a=elephant
Fox personality trait profile:
http://www.animalinyou.com/profile.php?a=fox
Tanami
2011 - 41 = 1970
1970 is the year of the dog.
Outside appearnce suggests she's the "elephant", because she's chubby.
(Dog is a close relative of the "fox".)
"People born in the Year of the Dog possess the best traits of human nature. They have a deep sense of loyalty, are honest, and inspire other people's confidence because they know how to keep secrets. But Dogs are somewhat selfish, terribly stubborn, and eccentric. They care little for wealth, yet somehow always seem to have money. They can be cold emotionally and sometimes distant at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their sharp tongues. Dogs make good leaders. They are compatible with those born in the Years of the Horse, Tiger, and Rabbit."
Shinobu
2011 - 36 = 1975
1975 is the year of the hare/rabbit.
Outside appearance suggests she's the "rat", because of her buck teeth.
(The "hare" and the "elephant" are linked by being both slow to getting angry and they're really good at business.)
"People born in the Year of the the Rabbit / Hare are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. Rabbits are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. Rabbits seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. They are most compatible with those born in the years of Sheep, Pig, "
Sawaguri Isao
2011 - 37 = 1974
1974 is the year of the tiger.
Nicknamed by his sister for being annoying: "Japanese Bush Warbler"
"People born under the sign of the Tiger are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tigers come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tigers cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful. Tigers are most compatible with Horses, Dragons, and Dogs"
Have no time to input anything upon our gathered info. Or, how Miku's rules involve personality traits/actions.
And I haven't even noticed about the flickering light until it's been mentioned here in this thread. Suspicious suspicious...
Edit: And I'm gonna guess, by thte end of the case, Ran is going to run all the way to the Professor's house and Conan will say, "You just missed him."

Unfortunately we do not know whether this file happened in 2011 or not (Remember when anime airs it would have been in 2012), and if their birth year is not given to us directly, then it's very unlikely that the zodiac year reasoning applies.

Oh, my so I really wasn't able to solve this names' riddle. Dunno Japanese. ><HADAA wrote: Regarding the coding system, this is an explanation I'm satisfied with (I suppose someone mentioned something similar in a previous post):

I would support theory about animal = color = suspect, but elephant doesn't match here. I suppose that from Japanese word of elephant, you should get the name of the color as well as rat's and fox's, right?
I thought that maybe it's about animals' behaviour like usuagi hides in bush = Isao and elephants like bathing = Yuchi, but I didn't find connection between Nihei's kindness with rat or fox. I guess thing about animals and colors are better explanation, but still, we need something about elephant.
Besides, there's something more interesting about books and slippers. Nihei's book is weird. Why only one page was wet and then dried? Nihei's didn't actually explain it. If she spilled some water on it, there would be more pages like that. My theory: I think she actually spilled water on the whole book, but she kept one page with authograph. Then she bought new book and changed pages. Why? Maybe because she's actually the murderer.
Other thing - wet slippers. I guess the fat lady said the truth about it. Though, I don't think it were Miku's slippers. Probably they were murderer's slippers and probably it's also elephant's slippers, since it was the only person who came to Miku just after bath with wet hair. I guess that murderer was in Miku's room almost the whole time, so words "She's still here" maybe meant "Elephant's here". We know that Miku wasn't nice person, maybe she had some nasty pact with elephant. When fox and rat came, she told elephant to hide in bathroom, that's why she didn't allow that fat lady to use her restroom.
Another thing - about bloody fingermarking on bathmat. It's pretty obvious that Miku's took some sleeping pills, so the murderer could take her to the bathroom cut her wrists and then she left her there. During that time the murderer probably searched something in Miku's room (she had to have some better motive than not liking here, it can be something about Miku's novel - maybe Miku stole some ideas or the whole book from the elephant??). Than the murderer went back to the bathroom and found conscious Miku who tried to escape the room. Maybe she put her asleep again, because Miku was found next the the bathtub, right?
It's really complicated....

The question is who the animals refer to. I gave some suggestions in my previous post, but using the same line of thought a recent poster came up with different alternatives. What are the "standard" colors for Rat, Elephant and Fox?
And someone mentioned about the zodiac calendar or something, but I think it is highly unlikely. Besides I doubt that japanese bird is in that calendar. My guess is that it probably has something to do with the pronunciation in japanese, so I won't be able to solve it.

About the murder. Maybe the "pact" was about a murder trick or something similar which the murderer wanted to show to the victim.

The problem is that we got too much information - we have zodiacs, bloodtypes, ages, habits, jobs... so it's hard to decide which of these things matches with animals...wdflu wrote:I really like your theory and I think "the thing" the culprit was searching for has something to do with the signed books.RedPoppy wrote:Oh, my so I really wasn't able to solve this names' riddle. Personally, I don't think it has to do anything with zodiacs and ages and bloodtypes. I guess colors fit here better.
Even if we know who is Rat, Elephant and Fox, it's still mystery what happened there. It's not so obvious that the murderer was Rat.

If any of those people in the office are BO, Conan/Shinichi just screwed over everyone close to him - they now know that Kudou Shinichi, high school detective (who is supposedly dead), is not only alive, but closely associated with:
- Conan
- the Mouris
- Professor Agasa
As far as how someone might have gotten wind of the situation enough to be flashing lights, Conan did say they'd contact the police in order to have Poirot evacuated.

It's true, but there wasn't much of a choice. It was that or possibly have Ran shot or Sera or (in a best-case senario) have the call cut off along with every bit of information possible.Abs. wrote: If any of those people in the office are BO, Conan/Shinichi just screwed over everyone close to him - they now know that Kudou Shinichi, high school detective (who is supposedly dead), is not only alive, but closely associated with:

I thought that Ran would be more suspicious because of the whole "use-my-charm-that-Kudo's-suposibly-never-touched-to-compare-fingerprints" deal. I mean, she even says as much to Kazuha, who doesn't give much beyond "that's weird". It'll be harder to ignore this problem on top of everything else.
