Actually, I think Sera is surname. As somebody said, Japanese people introduce themselves with surnames. The real name is probably different. Btw, nice suggestion about Sera<Seraph. I wonder if Gosho thought about this while creating this character.

Which fits in nicely with my theory that Sera is an English girl of Japanese heritage. It would explain why she turns up now: The London case gave him exposure in the British press, prompting her to do some research into the boy, and she should have been able to find quite a few articles written about Conan online, maybe she was even able to draw the conclusion Conan = Shinichi from just that.

I might be wrong there, but wouldn't Japanese people introduce themselves, using both their surname and their given name? (Mouri Kogorou desu, for instance). English people might very well introduce themselves just using their first name.

When I first read file 768 I thought if Sera was a girl she might be kansai's karate champion since japanese authors like simetry and Ran was introduced as the kanto champion. Still it would be a bit lame

About the question if girls like girly boys... in Japan a lot of the popular guys are very girly. If not look at the Visual kei, J-pop singers... personally I don't go for those kind of guys and I find Sera more hot as a manly girl

Masami is a girl that can be for girls or boys but as the rumor already states she is a girl, if the rumor is true, that point is moot. I've seen Sera as a surname at least once in a manga before. It would be awesome if s/he was a girl but a pity even her couldn't beat Conan at hsi own game.
