Well, Jirokichi shows up more than Sonoko's father, so there may be something to that notion.  Not that number of appearances in the series dictate whether someone is a critical component to an evil organization, but that it makes him much more mysterious.

Has anyone seen the Sherlock Holmes movie that came out about a year ago? I remember when I first saw it there were a bunch of crows whenever someone died, and I was like OMG IT'S THE BO xD Obviously no relation, but I thought it was funny

Another thing I found interesting is that there's one line in the middle that says "goran / Marui" which sounds almost like "Ran Mouri", which could be another thing suggesting that Kogoro is Ano Kata.
Or maybe I'm just overthinking things too much... >.<

EDIT: Also, in terms of the discussion on Sonoko's father, aside from Jirokichi and Sonoko herself, none of them seem to have appeared more than a couple times, which I find a bit strange.
Sonoko's father: Only appeared once in canon as far as I recall, but like Jd- I get the feeling he had one other one.
Sonoko's sister: Appeared 3 times, the third only for a couple panels.
Sonoko's sister' fiance: Appeared twice, once as a suspect and once again as a filler character, only getting maybe a page.
Sonoko's mother: Once, during Kaito's first appearance.
