It's interesting, that so many here just said "please not Okiya = Akai" but the votes show like the most are expecting Okiya = Akai.

I voted for Okiya is someone else and Akai is Vermouth. I like that idea.

I was hoping someone would vote for an option like that because I am wondering where you think Bourbon fits into the picture. Hasn't shown up yet? Not even real? I am kinda surprised there aren't more "Bourbon is made up by Gin and the boss to try to catch Kir passing intelligence" theories out there. Although I didn't talk about it, until we had this arc, this was my runner-up theory.

So far ~50% fall into the Okiya = Akai camp. About 75% of voters believe Akai is one of the two people which when accounting for sampling size errors matches up closely with the 80% that believe Akai is still alive. I imagine when 703 comes out, there will be some more voters although I wonder how much they will effect the distribution of votes.
Another thing I noticed is that the prevalence of the scar Akai = Akai and/or Okiya = Bourbon theories are much greater on forums or discussion threads with a lot more casual readers of Conan. (I am assuming the average DCTP member is more hardcore than any other internet population  :D) I assume it is because they take the hints like Okiya drinking Bourbon as an indicator without question despite it historically being misleading and forget about the possibility of disguise entirely. I get the feeling that people on DCTP who believe, say, Okiya is Bourbon tend to have backed up their belief with more evidence than that. Also on more casual discussion threads there is almost no one who talks about "complicated" theories like Rena or Yuusaku being in disguise for any of this. I wish someone would run the same poll on other websites because hardcore fans are not representative of the entire population...

I think I've changed my mind about the identities of these two about a million times since this arc started... but never mind, for the sake of introducing a new idea.. instead of scar Akai being Bourbon, appearing to lure out the FBI, what if he's instead someone from the CIA (e.g. Eisuke? o.o) luring out the BO? as can be seen his appearance has already lead to the BO organising this full stake-out, and there could be CIA agents going around wherever scar-Akai is to look out for the identities of these BO members.

There's actually a lot to be done like checking Okiya's name pun, the crime scene in the falls, Conan's reactions... and lots more to come up w/the whole theory.

The common instinct should be Okiya=Bourbon since it explicitly shows in the anime/manga that he has good detective skills, has the 'evil presence' Haibara senses, drinks Bourbon (lol), and smiles like the devil after seeing Akai. I think Okiya=Akai is more of a twist than Okiya=Bourbon

Yes I agree with you that Okiya=Bourbon is more common sense.. but DC fans almost always expect a twist, that's why you see many people suspect Okiya for being Akai. And yes, it's hard to proove it, but what I meant with "easy" is that many people already suspect that.. I hope Gosho has a great idea that almost no one has expected.

I still believe/hope that Okiya is Akai and Bourbon. That would be interesting. It is also not impossible, since Akai probably had the chance to inflirate the BO again. He might have known people connected to the organisation from his earlier "Rye-years". Until his "death" he was a minor person in the BO (like previuosly) and after that he could have become a full member who could be checked through and out.

Hating "Akai" fits here too, since he really could hate himself for what happened to Akemi or anything beyond this.

I think Okiya = Akai is a "boring" idea only because I see it every day in the forums. I personally think that for the people who don't discuss the plot with other people, Okiya = Akai will be quite unexpected. When I first heard the suggestion, I was actually quite excited by it.

I hate it if authors resurrect their characters. A dead character should stay dead. And as long as I don't read that it is Akai, i will not believe anything.

Hi ! I'm new here...

My theory are Okiya = Akai, "Akai" = Vermouth, Bourbon = somebody else... It really makes sense because:

1. Conan really trust Okiya, and he's unbelievably calm after hearing Eisuke said that some one (of the FBI) was dead. And Akai like drinking Bourbon too.
2. It really doesn't make sense if Bourbon save Conan, so it has to be Vermouth or real Akai. But I think real Akai is not stupid enough to appear in public (unless he did that to lure the BO out).
3. I don't think Gosho will do a twist like: Okiya = Bourbon, "Akai" = Kir, "Kir" = Akai.
4. This is just a guess: Maybe Bourbon is somebody else who appear unusually often these days (Gosho also did that too, when Vermouth disguised as Araide-sensei, he appeared really often).  I think Bourbon might be disguise as Agasa (I hope not), or Sonoko, or maybe even Ran... I think Sonoko is the most suspicious, she has met Okiya at Shinichi's house, so maybe she'd ask Vermouth to disguise as Akai to lure the real one out (who's actually Okiya).
