Work was kind of a skive, albeit a cold one, because a fire alarm got set off (by a bird flying in the open delivery door and roosting on it, setting off the stupid thing's heat sensor) and we had to go wait outside for a bit. Only then the store had to close, because somebody left a cage (a six foot tall wire cage on wheels, used for transporting stock) in the open archway between the warehouse and the shop floor, where a large fire door normally drops to keep the fire from spreading from one part of the store to another. End result, the door got totalled, and the store had to close because it's one of the health and safety regulations that you can't keep the store open with inoperable fire safety equipment. The manager's in major trouble, because none of the stockroom boys will own up to leaving the cage behind or point fingers, so she has to shoulder the blame- and the bill. She's also got a disciplinary warning, and if there's a major accident like this again, she'll be fired. Which nobody's particularly fussed about, because she's evil and can't even keep the store stocked and organized.
